Great job, everyone. You changed the course of his entire life by getting that injury properly treated before it could grow proud flesh and become a chronic, crippling problem.

He is so handsome! But my hands are curling into "mane-pulling position"... It looks so scraggly.

Were these the previous owners that weren't feeding him? Or the daughters of the woman who tried to save him?

I would think it is the people that tried to help him. He is a photogenic little thing, even all scraggly.

Somewhere in one of these threads someone posted a link to this dreamhorse ad for a mare that is by Seas the Golden Day, the cremello stallion of Jean Elledge's that starved to death: www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1126327If you look on the damside on her pedigree there is a horse named "Rhythm's Licorice and Lace". The pedigree doesn't go any further and I can't find any more info on the All Breed Pedigree website, but I would not be surprised if there was a connection here between our Rhythm and Elledge's horses (the listed breeder of Rhythm is Jody Fowler of Lopez Island). Rhythm's sire on his papers is RLB Blaze of Rhythm, who is by HHP Rhythm Command, who is, what do you know, a black and white pinto: www.allbreedpedigree.com/hhp+rhythm+commandCan't prove this but perhaps one of our Saddlebred enthusiasts with registry access can dig something up....?

I was pretty certain that is who this colt was. Jody Fowler also breeds Arabians and Paso Finos. Looking at the pictures of Rhythm and judging by his small size, it is very likely that his dam is a Paso Fino. Jody Fowler could certainly verify this. Rhythm's sire, RLB Blaze of Rhythm, is also listed for sale on Dreamhorse.
Rhythm's Licorice and Lace, the dam of the 5-yr old mare on Dreamhorse by Seas The Golden Day, is sired by HHP Rhythm Command, the same sire as RLB Blaze of Rhythm. Licorice and Lace's dam is HHP Senorita, by The Shamrock's Commander. (She has seven crosses to Wing Commander/Anacacho Shamrock within the first four generations of her pedigree.) Licorice and Lace was foaled in 1993 and the records show her as being bred in California and having changed hands several times. She has been owned by someone in Yelm for the past three years and only has one registered foal.

I went out to see Rhythm today and to get a bandaging lesson from Dr. Hannah so we can continue his routine until he has healed. What a good boy he is and I WISH I had brought my camera - you would NOT believe how well this thing has healed. He is putting all of his weight on it and in fact, Hannah had Kelsey take him out of the stall and walk him up and down the aisle way - walks like nothing ever happened. U N R E A L. He is a little "kicky" during certain phases (such as the alcohol rinse) but nothing that you can't hang onto with your hand until he stops.
He is so sweet and Hannah believes that he will grow some more ( I'm thinkin he's about 13 and change tall right now) so that is good news.
This guy is a keeper and he is absolutely gorgeous. If you don't want to fall in love all over again, don't come see him. He has a way about him.
I will be back out for the next bandage change on Thursday so I will try to remember to bring my camera. You will be amazed!

He looks like such a sweet colt; I am looking forward to seeing some pics, Redmond. Pleeeeze don't forget to take your camera with you on Thursday. Isn't it amazing how a tragic event such as this colt's severe injury can turn in to something that will change this colt's life forever for the better.

Here was his first walk from Tuesday. blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/horsebytes/archives/137332.aspSorry I didn't post the link earlier. I ran to the barn early this AM to get Willy's shoe back on - All the horses were nutty because of the wind. Rhythm was hopping up and down in his stall as they raced around the pasture. Hopefully the wind will die down by bandage changing time!
