I visited him yesterday, but wasn't there when Hannah came in the morning to change his bandage. I hear that he has a little more infection going on than before, so he is being started back on Naxel injections in addition to the SMZs. I visited him later in the afternoon and he was doing great, tolerated a lot of people around him talking and touching him and was very level-headed about it. He's got mud balls on his belly that are stuck on hard - they will either have to be cut off with scissors or just wait until they fall off with his winter coat.
I have some more pictures I will post later today. Also - Steve - got your package and brought it over to Julie's. That will help a lot, thanks!

Quick clarification, I guess he is not back on Naxel, Dr. Hannah is waiting a few more days before he starts back on the heavier antibiotics. She is going back to doing bandage changes every other day.

Wow! It really does look much better, especially from the side angle! Rhythm looks a little unsure about it though.. still adorable! Is all that puffiness around his coronet band swelling, or is it just the angle of the picture? It's absolutely amazing how far in Dr. Hannah can get her finger.. yuck-o. Can't wait to hear more about him.

Emmabee - yes, that's just swelling above the coronet band. I agree it looks weird but Hannah is not very concerned about it.
Good news on Rhythm today from Dr. Hannah, who did another bandage change today. His wound is healing amazingly well! The front two-thirds of the wound from the toe back is healing well, and has filled in almost up to the skin level. The back third of the wound that goes across his heel bulb and into his frog is taking longer to heal, but even then, she said that in the photos above she was able to put her finger in a good 2-3 centimeters into the wound, today it was only half that! So it is healing surpringly well and fast. Dr. Hannah could not be more pleased - in fact she doesn't even think he will have that bad of a scar!
Rhythm is doing fantastic but starting to object a bit to his cleanings, even with sedation. However, we are very quickly getting to a point where the wound is closed up enough that the cleanings and bandage changes should be a lot more tolerable for him and should be doable without sedation.
I have some more photos to post that I took last Thursday. He is looking great, and there are actually times when he puts his head up in the air that he looks very much like a Saddlebred. He's a pretty horse, although very small. He needs to gain some more weight, but assuming the injury keeps healing well and he starts putting on weight, in another month or two he should be ready to be gelded.
Pretty amazing recovery for a horse we thought we would have to put down!

I'm so glad it is healing well. He must be a fiesty one to pull through like this!
I can't believe he will hardly have a scar - I guess because the cut was so clean - and is obviously getting such great care!! Thanks Dr. Hannah!!

What is the probablility that he will heal to riding soundness? He will make a lovely gelding, and with so much life ahead of him; it would be sad for him to be a pasture pal.

Dr. Hannah is very optimistic that he will make a full recovery to riding soundness.
