So it's a long story with this gelding, and the whole thing can be found in general ruescue chat with the topic 'a sad day.'
Lingen was my heart and soul. Selling him was the hardest thing I had to do and now I regret it. The shorty story is that he was(we believe) abused or something at a barn in seattle and then we sent him down to oregon to a place that would pretty much rescue him, and let him get the time and attention he deserves.
Well he was there for a little over two years when I decided to email the people and get a detailed check up on how he was doing. However the lady wanted me to call, which I found a little odd. So I called, left a message and they called me back December 5th, 2009.
She explained to me that they could not earn his trust and they didn't want to sell an unsafe horse to the public. So they sent him to the WildLife Safari in september, letting him be butchered and fed to the lions. I heard that the safari does not butcher healthy young horses so I stayed up to midnight emailing all the oregon rescues in the area, wondering if they had any idea of who might have him.
Finally a lady that usually takes in the horses sent to the Safari told me that she called and the safari tried finding him a home for about a month, but since they don't hold on to horses they finally butchered him.
Hearing these news broke my heart, and I still cry over this amazing gelding that was my dreamhorse. Just because a horse is spooky on trails and doesn't click with all people, doesn't mean he would be humanely put down and fed to lions.
So forever he will be in my heart,
RIP Lingen <3
