Other shows are not sponsored by a horse rescue that is dealing with the effects of overbreeding on a daily basis. If you want to promote your stallion as a breeding animal this schooling show is not the appropriate venue anyway. There are rescue-sponsored shows (ie People Helping Horses) that do allow stallions. I haven't encountered the restrictions there either. I agree; A show like this isn't a venue that will promote a stallion as it is unrated and insignificant as far as show record. I am in no way interested in promoting him as a breeding animal anyway, I just take him with me because he's my horse and I love him. He just happens to be a stallion. He goes to show for the same reason I take the girls. Plus, I want him to gain the experience to do other shows.

I would also like to add, if anyone from the Portland area would like to attend the show, we have a 3-horse, slant load trailer and could transport a couple of horses to the show. Let me know and I will let you know the cost. Ooh ooh ooh!!!! Pick me!! Do you still have room on your trailer, Laurie?? I have a few who are SO ready for a show, but alas, no trailer!

Can you send me the electronic version so that I can print out some as well? Has anybody started contacting the radio and tv stations? Celebrate the horse did not have the crowds it clearly should have had and I do believe that was because there was next to no advertising for it. I also think that we could get more sponsors if we began getting the word out to the radio and tv and online sources. Make sure all the barns know about it by contacting the emails addressed on their websites. Throw it in Craigslist now and get the juices flowing. If you need help with putting together a "brief" blurb, let me know.

I have contacted KMPS & KZOK because I have contacts there but I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to have a PR volunteer..perhaps someone who can write press releases for this and other events. It would be great to get as much coverage for all SAFE events as possible. That might even make a great PM Magazine story..."From neglect to the show ring..." I don't know what KMPS and/or KZOK is going to be able to do but I hear that KMPS will probably do a PSA for us and I'm trying to get on-air back stage passes to the Bob River's Show so we can have a moment to talk about the Horse Show. If anyone else would like to contact other stations, that would be FABULOUS, I'd bet Also, we got a really good response to HeART of the Horse on our Facebook Event Page....should we consider one of those as well?

Lynn, I will bring some for you when we take a look at the arena! I had to get creative to create them, and don't really have a printable version. I'm no computer master!
I will contact the Eatonville Dispatch newspaper. They have done many stories on rescued horses in our area and this may be of interest to them. I'll let you know what I hear. Amici once advertised with KNBQ. I'll contact them and see if they are interested in giving us some air time.

All of this is so great. I wish I had the time to be your PR person but I'm afraid I really am at my limit for leading anything. I can certainly provide assistance in whatever you need and I am pretty handy with a computer.

Let's hold off on posters until Wednesday when we should know for certain whether or not we have a presenting sponsor. I PROMISE to have posters ready to be printed on Wednesday before the end of the day.

Awesome about the link to the Orting News! That is just the coverage we need! Also, Orting as a reader board as you drive into town that sometimes has local events posted on it. Do you know how we might get our info on that board???
Great job!

Oh yeah! The reader board! Great idea! I will check with the Chamber of Commerce & do some more checking around for ways to get the word out...did you get my PM regarding posters? I can definitely put some around locally.

Hi I'm new here and have a silly question about tack for the WP classes. Let me say up front I'm a showing newb in all respects and it's been over 30 years since I went to a show at all. I realize it's going to be a low key event but my mare works best in a snaffle. She will go ok in a shanked bit but would I be disqualifed or marked down for riding direct rein in a snaffle in the WP classes?

No, you would not be penalized for riding in a snaffle.

I was actually thinking about that as well. My horse goes in a snaffle as well. Usually you can only direct rein on a Jr. horse in the western pleasure classes. Does the same go for older horses being direct reined, or will the judge be going by WSH rules?
