LOL; I agree with you completely Kathleen.
Along that line though, Khramer is being ridden by me and a 15 year old rider. She is riding him at the Jody Strand clinic in Yelm in November. She hopes to show him dressage next year at Sporthorse. Quality or not, stallion or not, the reality is that this is a rescue horse that's had 1 year of handling on him. (and yes, walk, trot, canter; heck, we throw a hand gallop in when we can get him to go that fast)

OK, I have to jump in here. Hopefully not to regret it! Here's the way I see it. It seems pretty obvious to me. Everyone has a different idea of what their ideal breed, gender, color, and favorite event is. The best way to eliminate this entire mess is just as Kathleen says: don't breed piles of crap, and be responsible for what you do own. Feed it, train it, provide it with the basic needs and hopefully more. I'm not sure that gender has a lot to do with it. It's what people do with that gender. For as many bad stallions that are bred, there are just as many bad mares whose owners flock to those stallions. It is a stallion AND mare owner issue.
I do believe there are many stallion owners who are very responsible. I also believe there are just as many if not more, who aren't. Yes, most all stallions should be geldings. That is another obvious point. However, it seems that there are at least one or two responsible stallion owners who have posted here that know how to handle their horses and are doing the best to promote them and are NOT breeding everything in sight. It is irresponsiblity and ignorance that breeds fugly horses again and again, and those are the same owners responsible for starving, untrained, ill mannered horses of any gender. This is a stupid people problem.
I for instance have a TWH mare that I absolutely love with every ounce of my being. Is she the best representation of the breed, maybe not, is she conformationally flawless, no. Will she win a ton in the showring, no. Is she a great trail horse, you bet! Do I think about breeding her someday......maybe. I wouldn't do it now, but I do think I would like to have one baby from her someday. A baby that I would keep for MYSELF by a stallion of the BEST QUALITY of the TWH breed. I realize I could probably find a nice replacement riding horse for her when the time comes, but I would love to have one with her traits, as quirky and full of flaws as she may be, because to me, she is one of a kind, and one of the kind I love! I oon't think every horse has to be PERFECT to be loved and valued. If that is true, I don't think too many of our beloved horses would qualify!
Warmbloods are gorgeous very nice horses. Well bred quarter horse, arab, appy, paint, TB, Tennessee Walkers are also gorgeous, and yes, they probably are a bit more marketable to the general public because a larger variety of riders can enjoy them. Yes, there needs to be a breeding freeze. It would be great if only the best of the very, very best were bred and the rest were banned from breeding, for at least a year. That might help clean up the problem, HOWEVER this is the real world.
It all boils down to horse owners using the brains they were born with, and sadly some horse owners were born with very small brains. Sadly, this issue will go on and on and on. We can only hope with all the information out there AGAINST breeding anything with registration papers and four legs, that SOMEONE will get a clue and think twice before adding to the kill buyers truck!

Sorry Jaime it was just a hardship registration inspection. I wish it had been more! She was just inspected for size and breed characteristics. POA does not require any more than any other american registry........sigh. But the judge was complimentary and she did pass her inspection and get her permanant pony card.
I will say I have been looking at pure and partbred arabians for a personal horse for me lately and have been pleased with how many out there have been inspected! I am looking at sporthorse type so I am not looking at table backed post legged halter horses and have been encouraged with what the sporthorse arab people are doing. Mostly mares for the Oldenburg Verband(sp?) but still it is encouraging they are having them inspected.

Unfortunately, that seems to have been the idea behind AWS, and all that does is convince people that said grade horses are worth $10k and they should make more of them. Ok... Let me rephrase that. I wish Americans would learn something about European Warmblood registry standards and lose the pure-bred mentality that drives a majority of grade bred horses to Canada. They do have a few hundred years on us. I met a H/J trainer last week who tried to tell me that AWS has the same standards as the European registries *snork* She also admitted to having worked for AWS, hmm. The problem is the same as Cat said though, with breeds like QH you get such a variety of disciplines that it's hard to define a standard. What about something like this: Limited registration at birth; basically just a pedigree. Breeding inspection at 4(?) years, including conformation and U/S work. Not to match the horse to a particular type, but to weed out major conformation faults that would limit a horse in any discipline, and show basic training has been accomplished. Stallions would also be required to have a certain performance level in the discipline of choice; there would need to be agreement as to what the equivalencies are. Might be easier to get adopted if this is required only for PUBLIC stud; e.g. owner of unshown stud can breed to mare they also own if both have passed breeding inspection. Obviously that's not perfect, but I'm trying to think within reality.

This is one scary ad. Poor, poor horses. I do not want to jump to conclusions as to whether this woman took in all six horses or if she bred them, before getting a straight answer from this person. She was asking $500 each in a previous ad, now she is asking $300 each. She is totally delusional. Pics in ad. yakima.craigslist.org/pet/1440594629.htmlhorses, alpaca, llama, ducks, and geese need homes (Yakima) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2009-10-27, 4:47PM PDT Reply to: redneckgrl135@XXXXXXX [Errors when replying to ads?] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our home is more of a safe haven for unwanted animals of all shapes and sizes but we cant afford them anymore. We have 6 horses, a llama, an alpaca, and numerous ducks and geese that we are trying to find good homes for. The horses are healthy but have had little human contact and are considerd wild. They are a mother with her 3 colts and 2 fillys. All are Arabian/Thoroughbred/Mustang mixed. Beauty is the dark bay with the white star and snip. She is 20 years old and is the mother. Thunder is one of beauty's colts and he is about 10 years old and is also a dark bay. June Suprise is Beauty's second colt. He is a stallion. He is a light bay but with some golden streaks throughout his mane. He is 8 years old. June has had some human contact but limited to being pet and hand fed. Buttercup is Beauty's first daughter and is the light bay with the white star on her forehead and a flaxen mane and tail. She is 6 or 7 years old. Cresent is her second daughter and is the light bay with a white cresent moon on her forehead. She is 4-5 years old. Champ is her stallion son. He is a bay with a white blaze down his nose. He is 3 years old. All look great and very healthy but need someone patient and willing to work with them. We also have about 50 ducks and geese of all different breeds that need a good home. Finally we have a brown and white llama and a dark brown/red alpaca that need homes as well. We are willing to negociate prices. If you are interested, want more pictures, or have questions, you can email me or call/text me at 509-945-XXXX or 509-969-XXXX Location: Yakima it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

I am rather surprised, given the ages of those horses, that there aren't MORE babies.

I wish people had to fill out applications before getting horses, or even just getting animals. Ugh, its so disgusting.

"All are Arabian/Thoroughbred/Mustang mixed."
*head-slap*
I'd flame them but it wouldn't do an ounce of good.

So I'm probably going to be smacked on the hand but.... Dappled Grey Stallion - $1 (Auburn) Date: 2009-10-17, 4:21PM PDT Reply to: sale-kvqt2-1426148203@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Free Dappled Grey Stallion. He needs to leave today. Exxtra Perception is his name. We call him "CASH" We took him on awhile back and he had issues. He had a halter on for many years and we have given him the trust he needed to get it off. He is a little head shy but definately not aggressive. He is a big and I mean BIG love bug. Cash is a proven stallion, He is almost to the point where I can get a halter on and off of him, once its on he leads great (he is a little ansy at first) but so are alot of stallions, and he does lunge. He is not broke. I just had a baby and I feel I wont have the time for him. I have been working with him daily and when I first got him he wouldnt let ANYONE around him or touch him or anything. Now he lets me brush him and his main and comes running up to me.... He is an outstanding horse with alot of still to come potential. Even with his age. Just looking for a good home. He does load in the horse trailer. He just needs love and to know its ok to have a friend. If you come out to see him you will know what Im talking about. He is registered and I have his papers.::: Raffles* and Bask** are in his bloodlines. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. He is gorgeous. Thank you for your interest He is thin right now but is gorgeous when at weight. You will be very happy. Please take this prize home today. I have had many e-mails that go nowhere, but need someone serious to come get this boy. 206-854-3935 He's not broke and he's antsy. But I'm about to sign a huge farm liquidation consignment contract or I'd bring him home, geld him and train him. He's on all breed pedigree. She's threatening putting him down, not taking him to the auction. If I had space. Edit: I'm trying to work him in but if someone else can take him, even if it's just temporary I'm willing to do his training. I read this entire thread, and the other one created by Amanda It is so sad to see what happened to Exxtra. The original owners (not breeders) had gotten 2 filly's from the same breeder down in Cali in 1992 as yearlings. After bringing them up to Washington and purchasing their own home and barn with 22 aceres and the two filly's got older and they had trained them, they decided the wanted to breed them. So they called the breeder they came from, and they said they have a stallion that they are keeping its brother for breeding purposes so they didn't need him and sent him to Washington. He had his own paddock which was right next to a single stall behind the main barn, that they cut a door into from the paddock so he could come in and out of the stall as he pleased. He never had his halter left on him at their barn. After a few breedings they decided they didn't like seeing him in the unfair situation where he couldn't be housed with other horses due to being a stallion, and they also wanted to give someone else the chance to breed him as well. A neighboring friend down the street wanted to take him and breed him and then "release him into the wild" on the East side of the mountains. Regularly they drove by and check on him until one day it appeared they had moved. Assumed they moved to the East side of the mountains like they claimed they wanted to. This appears to be when he started to get into very bad hands and be neglected. He was a very beautiful horse, and the owner loved him dearly and wished that he hadn't got into such bad hands. He feels terrible for Exxtra (still has his name plate on his stall door) And they kept the last baby produced by Exxtra since she was a grey as well and that's practically un heard of, getting a baby that looks just like dad. She and her mom and the other mare still live all together at the barn, she is 15 and the moms are both 23-24 Happy healthy (granted they are older) horses. And still as beautiful as they were when they were younger.
