Placed!!! Congratulations to Jaime B. (yes, she even spells it the same as me, I knew she was perfect for Classy!) on her adoption of Class Act! Jaime has been riding Classy out at Kristi's in Maple Valley for a while now and has fallen in love with her. Even though she is a beginner (she's been taking lessons for several months now), Classy has been taking good care of her on the trails and in the arena. Jaime even rode Classy at the SAFE show, and I think it was her good behavior there that made Jaime see that she was the perfect fit for her. Here they are together at the SAFE show where they won 2nd place in the Walk Only Western class: Class Act will continue to reside at Kristi's where she will be boarded so I am sure we will continue to receive wonderful updates on how this pair is doing together. I couldn't be more thrilled for both of you! And many, many thanks to Kristi for fostering Classy, putting time and training miles on her, and for matching her up with such a great adopter!!!

Best wishes to both Class Act and Jaime.

What a great result! Nice job to all involved. I know it's not the ideal situation when a horse gets returned to SAFE, but when something works out like this you can't help but think it was just meant to be.

Hey everyone - this is Jaime, Classy's mom. Sorry I haven't posted an update since Classy officially became "mine", but I had this great plan to get Classy ID'd through the Jockey Club and then use her registered name as my "login name". Unfortunately, with the way that's going, you probably wouldn't see any updates from me for months or maybe ever I sent in a tattoo research request with several pictures of Classy and her tattoo, but since the letter is nearly unreadable, and two of the numbers are questionable, the JC hasn't come up with a match. I'm going to try the TPRB next. Right after the adoption went through, I googled and googled senior grains and diets. I decided on Triple Crown Senior, so for the last month, Classy has been eating TCS and rice bran in the morning, and at night she gets a big tub of TCS, rice bran, flax, orchard grass pellets, beet pulp, MSM, plus she gets either alfalfa and grass hay 2-3X/day. She has been eating this really well and I think she has put on weight, though it is hard for me to tell since I see her so often. I'm still trying to cover those dang ribs! Classy and I have been trail riding with Kristi and Suerte (PK) as often as possible. She really enjoys the trails and she has been fun to ride even though she sometimes has some little "tantrums" when she isn't in the lead Here are some photos: Soos Creek Trail - I get to eat blackberries! Soos Creek Trail - Classy having another snack. I also had fun blanket shopping for Classy - purple is her color!

Hi Jaime!! Thank you for the update! And wow, that second blanket is beautiful! I think I might have to get one for one of my horses. You look great on her and thank you for taking such good care of Classy! She's obviously very happy and well loved!

Hi Jaime! I had Classy at my place last winter and really enjoyed ehr! She is such a lovely mare! She is so patient and easy to work with, especially if she ever gets any "boo-boos" (which she did while she was here. Good luck covering the ribs! I have noticed with the TBs I have and have had visiting here, that it is almost impossible to get them "really" covered. This summer, Honey was a total tub of lard, yet she still looked "ribby" to me. I honestly don't know if that's a breed thing, if it's just the way they carry their weight. (Unlike QHs and Appy's that don't appear to have ribs at all.) Have fun with Classy and enjoy her! Looks like you both "Won". Yours is such a wonderful story! And she looks AMAZING in purple! My favorite color!

I think that's a breed trait, the same way a TB in good shape will always have more of a tuck than a QH. Better to go by the overall picture - topline, shoulders, tailhead, point of hip, etc. Ribs are only a small part of that.

I'm not surprised she's developing a little bit of a 'tude about having to be a real riding horse. My guess is she was used as a broodmare after she raced, and not ridden at all until she was dumped at the feedlot. Then she was adopted by the people in Eastern WA who occasionally rode her western but mostly were just afraid of her it seemed like. I'm sure she thought her job in life was to eat and sit around and look pretty, so she's not too happy that she has to work for a living again. I'm sure she'll settle into it..and good luck with the saddle search! She does sound very spoiled indeed!

Kristi - Thanks for taking my girl out!
Yes, I have to admit, Classy definitely has a 'tude. I did have my trainer out a couple of weeks ago and Classy was acting up - lots of pinning ears, but no crow hops and my trainer believed that it was a saddle fit issue. Classy is a little swaybacked w/shark fin withers and she is quite narrow since she is lacking in the muscle tone. I have been saddle hunting (western) but haven't found one yet that I like and that fits her properly.
In the mean time, I have been working Classy on the ground when it hasn't been downpouring and I even tried her out in Kristi's english saddle. I have never ridden in an english saddle before, but this saddle fits Classy so I thought I would try it out at a walk in the arena so Classy doesn't start to think she is a retired pasture princess. This was the first I saw of the 'tude, since I know that this was not a saddle issue. Classy pinned her ears and crow hopped and just generally balked at the whole idea of walking in the arena. I did make her walk but then dismounted as I did not feel all that secure in that english saddle and did not feel like cracking my head open!
Currently, I take lessons once a week on a school horse, however, my trainer has offered to come to Kristi's to give me weekly lessons on Classy as soon as I get a saddle. If anyone has, or knows of anyone that is selling a 15" western saddle, semi-qh bars (narrow) with preferably a suede seat, let me know!
And, to add to the good news, Classy has gained a little over 100 lbs since I adopted her. I used a weight tape the first week in Sept to get an estimate and she was approx 1015 lbs. A few days ago, she was approx 1130 lbs. I will post some new pics soon.

Great news on the weight gain. I'm glad to hear that despite this little attitude/rough patch you are surrounded with people who can help you find sucess with Classy. Keep up the great work. I wonder if a treeless would be something to look at as far as fit goes?
