Geez, now I feel WAY behind. Was Bassett, that untouchable colt? I should probably check him out then. My first choice trainer for my arab gelding, may or may not beable to take him in April. This ranch was my 2nd choice.

A huge "Thank You" to Julianne and SAFE. I spent all day Friday stressing about this mare getting off the lot, and many people pulled together to make that happen.
Thank you so much everyone!

We've been really fortunate to find some excellent, honest, competent trainers for our horses - I spent a weekend at Full Circle and watched Bill, Mike and Megan (his apprentices at the time) deal with quite a few horses deemed "rogue" by other trainers and get them going well, as well as Basset. I think he's top-notch.
I took my own gelding to a clinic by Bill, and it helped him/us, too!
There are also two other trainers who did a great job with a couple of members of the BoD's horses; we're hoping either they or Bill might be able to work with Whiskey.

I think the first huge "thank you" (not to detract from Juliane and SAFE'S roles in helping this mare) should go to Sam of CBER who paid for this horse and got her off the lot. I know CBER is a favorite target of some and I think it should be pointed out WHO actually got this mare to safety.

You're right gratefulknits, it was Sam who paid for Whiskey, and I thank her for that. That is why I put above that "many people pulled together."
I did not want to start drama on this board.

A reminder of SAFE's request at the top of this page:
Please Note: SAFE is aware that there is a lot of controversy surrounding this mare and her previous situation. SAFE asks that you keep this thread and this bulletin board focused on the care and rehabilitation of this mare and not on the controversy surrounding the individuals who were involved with her previously. Thank you for your cooperation.
We really want Whiskey to start over here with a clean slate, she deserves that. Thank you.

S.A.F.E. has received a generous donation in the amount of $500 for Whiskey’s care and training from Vickie Mickelson, in memory of her husband, Ken Mickelson, who passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2006 due to cancer. Ken was a wonderful man who truly loved horses ;D

Connie - this was an incredibly kind donation on your friend's part. Tell her that it will most certainly go to good use for Whiskey, in memory of her husband. Update! We have found a trainer that is willing to take Whiskey! Bill Basham, who trained Basset for us, in Idaho. He is willing to complete her quarantine as long as she is not showing any active signs of Strangles (she isn't). We are still working out the transportation details - this is the next hurdle. Before she goes we will need to get her UTD on all her shots (including a Strangles vaccine) and get her teeth done (we will worry about her feet when she gets there, as she needs some work with her hind feet before she can be done easily, and her feet are not critical now). One thing we don't know for sure is how sound she is - there is no guarantee at this time that we can make a riding horse out of her, although that is the hope. She seems fairly sound currently, despite the weird way she tends to stand on that left hind and despite the ugly front leg. My vet will take a look at her but we will probably not do any extensive lameness evaluation if she is at all difficult. Assuming she stays sound, I think we can assume she will need at least 60-90 days training at a price of $650/mo (includes board). If she is only going to be suitable as a companion horse, then we may be looking at more like 30 days just to get her so she can be handled safely. So, SAFE is probably looking at at least $200 or so in vet work plus at least $1300 in training costs to get this mare to an adoptable state. I think this mare has a lot of potential - she is young, and she is beautiful! Donations to offset her costs are greatly appreciated! Paypal can be sent to donate@safehorses.org

Hey~ is Redmond old enough to be drinking I don't know about that but I can tell you he likes da ladies....and he wants a shot of Whiskey! (He's also in love with the little 'red haired girl' in the next pasture. I have to go out and drag him in every night - he's busy watching her thru her stall door - he prefers her to food!) Ha cha cha!
