Darn, once again I miss all the fun. And I love to play with tools. I even have my own so my hubby does not get to use and abuse them. LOL!

MUCH thanks to Monica B, Julie and her husband Dustin, Emily and her boyfriend John, and Bonnie who came over on Saturday to help get our winter paddocks going. We were EXTREMELY efficient, with the help of our new tractor(!) we set up 4 paddock areas, layed the fabric down and spread all the gravel we had (which wasn't enough, we have to order more). We assembled all three shelters (two 12x12, one 12x24).
On Sunday, Allison helped Mike and I assemble the 12x20 Costco carport that we are planning to use for extra hay storage next to the shelters.
We are still on for next weekend! We will have more gravel to spread, stall mats to lay down, plywood to stain and then put up, roofing to put up, and last but not least the fencing. Monica took some photos of the process so hopefully she will post those.
THANK YOU!!! HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT WEEKEND!

I'm trying to round up a posse for Sunday so we can FINISH anything that hasn't been completed yet. Hopefully we'll have LOTS of folks to come and join in the fun....and by the photos it looks like lots of FUN was had! I'm working on the kids....but of course Les will be there....isn't that enticing enough on it's own??? ;D

Yes, and although the weather forecast doesn't look too promising (and yet this will hopefully motivate us to get it all done quickly as we look at wet horses standing in the rain!), we do have a nice big covered arena that can be used for plywood staining (although, Bonnie and I discussed if the weather is too awful and we want to get the horses in quickly we could do the staining later and just put the plywood in as-is).
We have almost the supplies we need - another two loads of gravel, the fencing materials, the plywood and roofing materials, the stall mats.

A last minute reminder about this weekend's Work Party at Jaime's in Monroe: If you need directions or information please PM me. I will not be there on Saturday and will check email up until about 1:30 ...just before the Other Party gets going.
Sunday I WILL be there so save me some work!....or better yet....save me the work and get it all done on Saturday! ;D oh...I'm sure there'll be something left for us to do on Sunday!!
Hope to see you there

We are some tired folks but I'd say we got a lot done! There are walls and a roof on the shelters!! I'm so proud of the volunteers that made it out over the 4 Work Party Days! I know Jaime is very thankful for the help and, although they don't know it yet, the horses will be thankful come rain/snow season! They probably didn't care for all the noise and moving around of friends/neighbors but they were good sports and they just won a huge prize in the lucky horse contest!! BIG THANKS to the FABULOUS volunteers!!! What a team we have

Thank you SO MUCH SAFE volunteers!!! It was an exhausting weekend (I crashed HARD last night), but you all did great!
On Saturday, we had Bonnie, Allison, Anita, and Catrina. We laid more gravel, and put up all the sides up except for the inner partitions (we ran into a little snag there as we realized that we put the shelters so close together that we couldn't get the screws in).
On Sunday, we had Jet, her husband Les, their friends Sara and ? (I can't remember your male friend's name?), Sara (epiphany), Kirsten, Bernie, and LynnM.
To Jet's husband Les and his friend, a HUGE THANK YOU for handling the most difficult, and most important job of all - drilling holes through the metal tubes and screwing on the roof! The shelters would not be shelters without them! This was not an easy job and they jumped right on it!
Kirsten and Sara learned all the ins and outs of putting up fencing and Jet, the other Sara and I got the middle walls up with the shorter bolts and nuts that Mike made a special trip to Lowe's to get. LynnM not only used her fabulous sewing skills to measure and mark out how to cut the rubber stall mats, but turned out to be the only female member of our group brave enough to handle the skillsaw that we used to cut them. Bernie gets special recognition for being our token t-post driver of the day, and of course everyone got a chance to rake some gravel!
Although we did not finish completely, we were very close, and after seeing the weather report today, Mike and I took the day off and finished the fencing so we could put horses in the shelters. It was a miserable wet day but so satisfying putting the horses in their new shelters and runs once it was done! Now they are all settled in, and I can happily say that although its still a little crowded, everyone has a shelter!
[glow=red,2,300]THANK YOU SAFE VOLUNTEERS!!!![/glow]

Armando is a fellow boarder from my barn and although I don't know him well, he's heard about what we do at SAFE and asked if he could join us on Sunday!!! He was a huge help! Sara, our daughter, Nicole's roommate, has been wanting to do something...anything...for Horses and was thrilled that I asked her to join us even when Nicole could not because of work. We also crashed hard last night but it was worth it!! I am so happy to know that horses are already getting to use it
