You got it, Jaime! Coconut, you have a PM
eta: If anyone else comes across a place like this that requires a letter on SAFE letterhead to donate, I have drafted a few now. PM me with who we're asking, what they need from us (some require specific data about SAFE), what we're asking them to donate (items, money, or both), etc.

I went to the Gift Horse Saddlery today and request an "English Package" They asked what that was, and I didn't know. Would anyone like to give me some guidelines here or we may end up with tea and crumpets.
They said they would donate an "English Package" and $10 coupons for all the 1st place settings.

I spoke to Emerald Downs today, they said they would donate a gift certificate for the raffle.

Laurie:
I have a Moneigh from Old Friends Retirement that I'd like to donate for your auction. I can't recall off the top of my head which racehorse painted it, but I will check. The Moneighs are quite popular and it's nice to have artwork from a famous race horse! I've got a couple of them.

Sounds like we have a Western show saddle package that we can raffle off. How cool would it be have an English one too! If the Gift Horse only donates items, maybe they will donate a saddle/bridle or brush set? I will ask them tomorrow. So you asked for an english saddle package and they didn't know what that was? Its a saddle, girth and matching bridle. Thought that was clear. As for the type of saddle, an all purpose, close contact or dressage saddle would be great. Maybe a medium tree and 16.5 inch seat? What's average?

I have a pretty cool mailbox cover that features horses at a river. It's not a huge prize but I wonder if it would be better to build a basket with it in it or does anyone think it's a decent enough prize on it's own? I'm pretty sure I have some things that I could add to make a pretty horse themed gift basket if I tried hard enough. Everything is new, of course.

I HIGHLY doubt they will donate a saddle - they are too hard to fit even when you can choose!! MAYBE a bridle. Brushes, pads, leather halters, polo wraps, crops, etc. are generally better prizes anyways because they aren't size specific. They always like to give gift certificates.
I haven't heard back yet from Olson's. I will go in there next week.

Wow, you guys are awesome.
Coconut, the mail box cover would be great. All prizes are welcome. Big or small. We can make baskets with the smaller items if needed. I have one purple bucket I can use as a basket. Maybe I will pick up a couple more. That way we can use them to group items together. You are welcome to make up your own basket too, of course.
Beth, the Moneigh sounds wonderful. It will make a wonderful addition to the drawing.
If we have a saddle and bridle for the drawing, do you guys think it should be in a special drawing by itself, with maybe a $5 ticket price. And the rest of the drawing items will be $1 per ticket. I am open to suggestions. We want to raise as much money for SAFE as we can. What do you think?

Being the raffle (or, excuse me Prize Drawing) Queen of our Parrot Head club I can tell you that it's pretty easy to sell both kinds of tickets at the same time. We have one of those Home Depot Aprons with the multi pockets and go out in pairs...one to hold buckets for tickets and one to handle money. Both end up helping separate tickets. I think it's a good idea to have a high ticket drawing for the high end item and $1 tickets for the other stuff. It appeals to both kinds of participants and a spectator doesn't end up with a really cool saddle set that they have no use for. We've had really good luck with those kinds of set ups in the past. I would also get people to sell Saddle Drawing tickets at their barns, pony clubs and to friends/family/neighbors prior to the show date to generate even more money! We've also had fun with incremental discounts....like 12 tickets for $10, etc....gets people to buy more sometimes. My husband, Les has some pretty funny selling phrases: 15 will get you 20 and the Jackson Special, 25 for 20....anyone wanna guess why he calls it the Jackson Special??? or why 15 will get you 20 is funny? Or NOT so funny???Shoot, maybe he could be talked into coming and selling! In fact I have a few folks on my TOP Ticket Sellers list. Maybe I could bring them all for a super duper Ticket Selling team! They could wear hawaiian shirts and stand out like sore thumbs in the horsey crowd!!! But you'd be able to spot them in a crowd... anyway, just suggestions

Having the saddle at a higher ticket amount is a good call. The other things, like a brush set, could go for less. Keep in mind that we aren't going to have the display space that we had at the last show, unfortunately, so we can only have so much in the booth. Do we have a tent-type awning that could be used to shelter the booth?

Allison, my boss has one of those pop up white canopies with no sides on it. I can see if he'll let me borrow it. Chances are pretty good he will. He's a pretty cool boss

I have a canopy also. I could bring it if necessary. Maybe we could plan on bringing both? That way there's one for concessions too? Or is the venue set up for concessions already?
