Poor Lily, we are praying for you. If this infection has been brewing for awhile, I believe her dams milk must have been keeping her immune system up enough during the early stages. I'm so hoping little Lily pulls through, its heart wrenching.

I just came back from visiting Lily. She was looking out her window to the outside world when I came in. She seemed bummed when I walked in the stall - I'm sure she thought I was going to do something to her that she didn't like.
I didn't get the impression that she recognized me until I let her sniff the area of my face (without touching me!) - she kept smelling my gloved hand and of course that wouldn't tell her anything but probably bad news.
Once I started scritching her - the lip went up - the head and neck twisting twisting twisting. I rubbed and scritched her EVERYWHERE - I rubbed the inside of her back legs and she stretched them completely out (with foot in the air) so to give me better access. She even began to show me the next place she wanted itched.
So, she got about a 20 - 25 minute scritch down rub down and as I left she began eating her hay.
We hope for the best but she is still a very sick girl - she is not the Lily we know. But she is still the Lily we love. She is truly at the edge so say a prayer for her.

Please check this link as far as diagnostic tests for what may be infecting Lily, as it can be hard to verify... Personally lost foals to this heartbreaking disease, but with aggressive management the following year saved 100% of foals diagnosed. I know your vets are the best, just making sure all options are being covered...the worst part of this disease is the foals improve, then relapse, eventually succumbing if the diagnosis is incorrect. Hoping for the best outcome. Hang in there Lily www.zoologix.com/horse/Datasheets/RhodococcusEqui.htm

It sounds like the visits to Lily have been very good for her. Thanks to everyone who is managing to do that. (And prayers are a given for this little girl.)

Thank you guys for going to see her...it must be hard to see her like that, but I bet it means the world to her. I'm jingling hard for her...I find myself thinking of her at the most random times. I'm sorta afraid to check the website, bracing myself for terrible news. I am going to send nothing but good, healing thoughts to her and hopefully she can pull out of this. Thank you all so much for all you are doing to save her life!!

I sure hope she can pull through. I read the updates yesterday before going home and I thought about her a lot lastnight.

Poor little Lil. Of all the babies, it would seem that she should have been the one least likely to have something like this happen. Fortunate for her, tho, that she is in such good hands and receiving the best care possible.

And is a transfusion is out of the question, to give her immune system a little more time?

It will give her a boost, but it would only be temporary and if the drugs haven't worked by Friday, they aren't going to.
