UP PERISCOPE!!!!! SURFACE! SURFACE! SURFACE!
Hello to Bell's fans and friends!
OMG - SPRING!!!
Giffy (Renee's Gift, my QH mare) continues to provide Bell with a never-ending series of reasons to, among a bzillion other things: run, "eat, meditate, sleep," play, hop, squeal; run, eatmeditatesleep," fly (I almost forgot about that -- both mares DO fly...); run, * * * * * -- you know exactly what I am describing! Bell doesn't slow down to poop, and I'm anxious to know whether she figures out how to urinate without stopping! Bell usually has a B I G grin on her face (which is usually covered with a "protective layer" of wet clay mud), and Giffy keeps Bell's neck mostly clean of mud by rubbing her head all over Bell's neck, crest and turnout blanket.
Bell is shoeless and we (Rob The Farrier and I) hope to keep her that way as long as possible. Bell has not taken a foul step for a very long time, and I've anticipated some kind of muscle soreness - at least! - as a result of Bell and Giffy's HEAD-LONG, DEAD SERIOUS GALLOPING around the bigger field at Anne's (next door, just a few feetz away).
The little girl's weight is very good, and she seems to sleep fitfully. I haven't heard her snore, yet, but she does have horsey dreams. Oh, yeah, I know - there's no substitute for exercise and massage when it comes to rounding up the back between the withers and the croup...
I cannot bring Bell to the July show because Bill and I will be out of town for an annual vacation. ..... ..... If those out-of-town plans fall apart, I will bring the little girl for some under saddle classes and whatever leadline class(es) we can get!
I have some photos of trillium and me at the CANBY TACK SALE a week ago (this is a twice-yearly event at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds to benefit the Clack Cty 4H kids -- but it really benefits anyone who has a booth because THOUSANDS of people with CASH want to buy your stuff!).
I have to run into Portland to do some tech support for my Dad and I'll post some photos tonight, after Bill and I watch the new Stargate SG-1 DVD release......
We invite any S.A.F.E. member to come by to see Bell (and Giffy, of course) at any time. We won't even put you to work, except perhaps to hold a camera or a cup of tea!
[S.A.F.E.] has time and time again sacrificed the most personal of human needs, including their own personal relationships, so that many of these creatures have another chance at life; a rebirth for horse and human.

BELL celebrated her 7th birthday on May 4 and, on May 15, we (Bell, Giffy, Bob the Cat, Mrs. Bill, Mr. Bill) had a little party to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of Bell's arrival. Her gift was the arrival of "the boys" next door. Midtway and Hot Shot had arrived from Tucson for the summer (with their people) and Bell was, ah, tickled! Tall-ish, dark, handsome, and fancy-dancy euro guys. The flirting and hollering went on for hours. After a few days, I swear that Bell had picked up a few Gran Prix moves from Midtway by watching him! She, and Giffy, remain barefoot, though Bell will get front shoes during Rob the Farrier's next visit in early July. The clay hardens to concrete -- most of you know what I mean! Bell and Giffy loafed during February and March, and Bell was very happy to be back at work! Giffy - - not so much. Last week, Giffy pawed open a subterranian yellow jacket complex in the field, but got away before the yellow jacket version of the Marines attacked. Bell followed Giffy, but was just far enough behind Giffy to run into a nasty cloud of soldiers..... After a salve rub and stint in the wash rack, Bell was relegated to a stall for the rest of the day and that night. The 30 or so lumps were spread over her offside fleshy rump and flank, and were almost 1 cm high. Did a little research on current toxin/anti-stuff info (LOVE that nerdy stuff), and put the monsters to bed. The next day, the lumps were up to a full 1 cm and were still nicely rounded; they started to weep on the 3rd full day; and, they were ready for comb-out of scabs on the 5th day. All better; no hair loss, I hope! There are some photos - - - they are from the mares' "Life is Good" collection: loose in the barn doing some serious eating; starting a walk through the neighborhood; and back from our walk. And, there are a couple of pics of me and trillium in my booth at the BIG Canby tack sale! There's another sale at the fairgrounds in Canby in October and I hope that local SAFE folks drop by my booth to say "hi." In my next update, I'll include a photo or two of some under saddle work with Bell.

Hello to All from GO BELLA GO and her little sis Renee's Gift! I include a couple of photos taken during the holiday, when most of the Northwest was white with snow and ice. BELL made far more snow angels than GIFFY, though GIFFY is has had a lot more snow time since she grew up in Ellensburg. BELL is in hiatus from work for a couple of months. She's been a good student. It's kinda nice to have an open schedule; that is, that I'm not preparing for an event or show season and thus stuck into a strict timetable. Besides, I'd have to buy an entire new wardrobe -- my size 6/7 stuff seems as though it was made for an entirely different person! Yikes! Anyway - - - The large paddock adjacent to the barn was completely redone when my honey was on strike this Fall. New drain pipes, rock, permeable, bulletproof cloth, and hogfuel. (The stalls open to the paddock; the photos show the mares in the paddock and BELL looking from her stall out into the paddock.) Over the last 15 years, termites destroyed fence boards and 6" x 6" posts. Wow, that is infuriating -- ya spend a poop-load of $$ on treated posts, rails/boards so that weather doesn't ruin the wood and those dang termites have wild & crazy parties at your expense! Again, anyway - - - BELL and GIFFY have been buying selling stuff on eBay under the user name of "tenspeedhigh" and hope to be able to continue to pay for their room and board that way. ....... BTW, an eBay buyer of mine in Idaho, who used to live in Seattle, told me that during the time she spent at Emerald Downs, she had won $50 through BELL. She was very excited to know that BELL was here, and offered a lot of information about BELL's lineage and background. She had been raised on race tracks and missed that part of her life. It jez goes to show ya -- it's a small universe. I know that I owe you folks a couple of photos that meet your quarterly specs. Bell says Hi to everyone. I have no one to take photos for me. Giffy does not have hands; though I'd happily settle for web-like things). I attach some photos from a free lunge session tonight. What that means, actually, is that Bell gallops track left all of the time unless you bodily interfere with her path. Warm up consists of hand walking for ten minutes (I did pony her once and that went well, but I don't think I want her to relate any track behavior to her post-track life, so I probably won't do that again for quite awhile.) Bell has four speeds: walk, hand gallop, working gallop, and faster than s--t gallop. Very businesslike. Very cool. I also shot a couple of short videos with the camera. I'm having trouble including them with this posting, though.... I seldom free lunge Bell so that I can work her to the right..... I've spliced together two 50' lines so that I can make a pretty darn big lunge circle, and use two long driving lines. Bell has been sound for as long as I can remember, and I have not held back on her workouts. Yes; I do make the time for sufficient warm up and cool down. My L O N G - T I M E riding buddy Kathy has recovered & rehabbed from her double-whammy knee replacement and is ready to get back in the saddle again, so we'll be kicking up the dust with Bell and Giffy in more photos soon! I think of all of you often, though I have not met most of you. I do learn quite a bit about you by reading your postings. Bell, Giffy, Bob the Cat, Bill (the Husband) and I wish you a safe 2009. Robyn. - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - IMAGES Taken today, Tuesday 02-03-2009: BELL HAS FIVE SPEEDS: Walk, regular trot, hand gallop, working gallop, faster than sh--t gallop!! Very businesslike. LOOKING FOR THAT MOST PERFECT PLACE TO ROLL.... STILL LOOKING......... WILL SOMEONE PLEASE OPEN MY DOOR! I HAVE NO HANDS!!!! BELL IN HER STALL, NEAR THE DUTCH DOOR THAT LEADS TO HER PADDOCK.

I went to visit Robyn and Go Bella Go last week. Along with Giffy of course. Bell is so big. I am used to 15h Arabians, not 16.2 TBs. Bella looks great and it is always a pleasure to chat with Robyn.

I went to visit Robyn and Bella today. We had a great day. Bella is at a nice dressage barn but will be returning home in a few weeks after Robyn gets back from the WEG. Lucky Robyn. Bella looks great. I feed her some peppermints and hay and gave her some scratches and lovin'. Robyn graciously bought me lunch. I had a blast today. You know you just have to do what you have to do to get that little bit of grass on the outside of the paddock. Robyn being a silly gal, Bella is easy to hide behind.
