Rusty is the only kind of horse I enjoy trail riding on - the kind that thinks that acting up would be a stupid waste of his energy. You will never have to worry that Rusty will want to bolt for home. I do not think he came with that gear installed. I am so happy he went to a great home that appreciates him! He certainly had a "near miss" in life.

Poor Rusty. After these photos I have been more vigilant in my nightly dosing of fly spray. My two geldings have been on a rabon blocks since early spring and drops every 3 weeks since June, but STILL. Flies are nasty buggers. At least no bot eggs this year. I hate those things with a passion.
Rusty is doing well in his very inconsistent training. He's the best trail horse ever. However, arena work, especially canter work is going to be the death of us. Today I decided that if I'm going to bring him to the SAFE show, I should work on bareback and ride-a-buck. HA! I'm WAY too old and broken to teach a green horse how to canter without a saddle. I'm nervous enough thinking of showing as it is! I haven't shown pleasure, equitation, or in-hand since I was in 4-H about 30 years ago! Seriously. 30 years! I have NO idea what I'm doing. I've been watching youtube videos and reading forums. Anybody with words of advice would be quite welcomed!
Anyway, this has been more an update and my neuroses than a Rusty update. I do hope to make it this year to show Rusty and possibly my Arab. I am imagining how fun it would be and good for me and my guys.

Well I for one would LOVE to see Rusty come to the show, even if you only do walk/trot and trail classes! This is a fun show, not a serious show that people need to get stressed about, so just come out and have fun!

Many people at the show have never shown, not even as kids! It is a schooling show - supposed to be fun, no pressure. You don't need show clothes or fancy tack and you can go in walk-trot classes if Rusty's canter is not solid yet. We all want to see him!

Yes, PLEASE come!! Last year I took Coconut and had a great time. This was my first show ever...her first show that I'm aware of and I wore mostly clothes I already had and found a couple of workable things at thrift stores for the english classes. I couldn't see paying big bucks for something I clearly wasn't going to use with gusto in the future. I also watched youtube video's for showmanship/halter ... that didn't make my horse turn any better but it gave me an idea about what the classes were all about. You can do this...no pressure...lots of fun!

I was going to ask you if Rusty was coming to the show when I did my site visit and totally forgot. I was really hoping you'd bring him. I for one am going just to see the horses, it doesn't matter to me how well people are at showing them. I think it's all about having fun and giving the horses exposure to the public. I hope to see him there!

Quick update on Rusty: Whenever he's not being ridden by me, my next door neighbor with a degree in Equine Science uses Rusty as a lesson horse . . . to a 10 year old girl! It's just too durn cute! Of course she is on a lunge line most of the time, and has had to buy her own little saddle, but he is so good with her! She must weigh 45 lb max and he's as good as gold. Of course they offered to buy him . . . Um sorry. This guy isn't for sale!!! Rusty is being enjoyed and loved by many. I'll have to take more video. Here are some photos taken over the summer.

He looks so good! I always love his updates and am not surprised to hear he's being ridden by the wee ones. He is worth his weight in gold!
