Thank you that made me smile and that's not easy to do these days. So glad I saw this. Holly, Desi is so lucky to have found you.

Aw, that's good Jaime. I don't know what's going on with you but I was sort of hoping you would see this, and I'm glad Desi could give you a smile. Hope things get better for you soon.
Wait 'till you see him and his new little "brother" Joe playing together. I haven't videotaped it yet, but they have the funniest game they play. Joe does the pretend-to-bite-you gelding game and Desi reciprocates by holding his tongue and teasing Joe with it.
I don't know if I've updated anyong here about this, but I have basically stopped riding Desi. I gave it another go this summer and, after more than enough rearing, decided it was not worth the risk (especially since I have two nice horses to ride and not enough time).
Although he isn't particularly sound, I don't think this is a pain issue, but more of a mental issue. Even when he behaved himself under saddle, he was always so neurotic that it was not fun to ride him. It's okay with him, and with me. He is happy holding down the fort when I take others out, and he is a most excellent babysitter of Joe.
On a more positive note, I put him back on hops last night and for the first time in many months he actually lay down to sleep. I buy whole hops flowers and steep them in hot water and mix the whole concoction in with his feed. I gave him more tonight, so we'll see what he looks like in the morning.
