In February, 2008, a horrific discovery was made in King and Snohomish Counties: Nine horses were found dead from starvation and many others were on the brink of death. This tragedy has raised our awareness to the magnitude of animal cruelty cases involving horses in our state and we are looking for change and resolution. Come and join us for a candle light vigil to honor these horses and turn the momentum from this tragedy into forward progress for all horses. Date/Time: April 5th from 7-9pm Location: Lake Tye Park in Monroe, WA. More information can be found at: www.evergreenholisticvet.com www.safehorses.org Or contact Dr. Hannah Evergreen’s office at (206) 940-8589

I won't be able to attend, but I will light a candle for each of the horses here at home.

I will be there with my barn pals from Federal Way. We met some of those horses over a year ago and are heart-sick over what happened to them. The memory of that day sticks with us. I took some photos of them & have no way of knowing which ones survived but I will bring them with us to the candle light vigil. I think this is a lovely way to honor them.

What a lovely idea...and a wonderful way to keep such an important message front and center. I can't attend, but will definitely light a candle for the lost 9 and the others from Los Angeles.

For those of you who are to far away to attend, here is a way to add some digital light. I started a group under the initial "I" for "invisible horses" - the horses that no-one seems to see until they are near death, the horses at SAFE and the ones we don't even know about, cold, wet, hungry or thirsty, shifting from one overgrown foot to the other, wondering when someone will come to take care of them again. www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=IThere is no registration required - just click on one of the unlit candles and add your thought. The candle will burn for 48 hours.

Will anyone invite someone from the press - to help this event shed a little more public light on the problem? I think it's a wonderful idea.

Maybe the address is listed somewhere, but I didn't see it, so thought I'd post for those of us who will need to do a Mapquest:
14964 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe, WA 98272
I'll be there.

I asked Lisa, Dr. Hannah's assistant, if she has sent the invite to the press - after all those TV spots she has their contact info I am sure - so we don't make duplicate efforts.
If not, I will do what I can.

We finally have confirmation that 2 animal control officers will be speaking at the candlelight vigil, from different counties. We are getting amazing support for the vigil and continue to be excited about the changes this may bring for the horses in our community. Please consider coming - have your voice heard and learn of other ways you may be able to help!

Darn it! Wish I could be there. Lit a candle for them today. Hopefully there will be a full report after the event!
