Haha, it's my nickname based on my last name, Guppy (like the fish).
We call her "emo" because she always looks like we beat her (she was a project dog when I got her so I strongly suspect she was in the past, particularly by a guy).

Hi all I live in Granite Falls with my super great hubby of 21yr (he said yes to horses and a barn and still thinks I'm cute with horse poop on my clothes) our 3 boys,10,6 and 2 1/2 and of course my 5 rescue horses. We have saved 11 ,sadly we lost 4 in our 1st yr. Anyway the ones that own us now are Royal Reign, Lady Raina, Sir Isaac General, Lucky Maverick and Tiffany Rose. ;D I don't show and I'm learning to ride ,as if right now I 'm just a horse servant and loving it!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hello! My name is Shana, and I live in the Portland area. I just got my first horse, a sort of rescue, and am both thrilled beyond belief and totally overwhelmed. My husband is interested in having a horse to trail ride with me and I'm hoping the perfect one will come through a rescue at some point. My horse, Jade, is an almost 16 year young Arab, she's absolutely wonderful! She came from a friend of mine who hit massive financial issues and it was either I take her or she goes to Auction. So, she came from a wonderful home, but I still consider her a rescue since who knows what would have happened if I hadn't been able to take her in. I hope to do some endurance with her, but I have a long way to go before I'm a skilled enough rider for that. She's pretty spirited, but she takes good care of me too and is very patient. I look forward to endurance riding, I think it looks so fun and like a great way to bond with your horse. If anyone lives in the Portland area, especially if you do endurance, I'd love to chat. I don't know anyone with horses around here, and would love to make some friends And if anyone knows of a great beginner trail horse, let me know. We can't afford another horse just yet, but perhaps in 6 months or so we'd be ready for a horse for my husband - he's definitely a beginner, no matter what he says

Welcome to the site... we have some Portland people, so you should knee deep in people in no time! I am in LOOOOOVE with your doggie Mars. I want one just like him! We're still in our small, transitional house until we find our land and build though. So for now I am owned by one crazy Thoroughbred (Finn), 2 kitties, one fish and of course my humans, a fiancee and a 4 year old! Anyway, welcome to the board!

Hey Shana,
Welcome. I have Arabs too. A 10 year old 1/2 Arab and a 15 year old purebred. I live in Oregon about 100 miles south of you. I'm interested in getting into endurance someday. I LOVE your Danes! My boyfriend had a 1/2 Dane/lab for 12 years.

Thanks Mars is my heart dog, I love him to pieces. He's a fearful Dane, and I've spent so much time trying to "fix" him, and he has gotten better. Both Danes are a bit over 2.5 years old, they aren't siblings but were born two days apart. Mars is a bit of a runt, 32" at the shoulder, Minerva (aka Mini) is a giant for a female, she's 37". They were my surrogate horses until Jade came along ;D Jade's former owner has Danes as well, which is how we met. Jade is quite used to huge dogs, but unfortunately my dogs, being city dogs, have NO idea what a horse is and are pretty freaked out by them. I can't wait to get to know everyone here.

Hullo! My name is David, and i'm pretty much just an artist these days- I usually work in ceramics and sculpture, thus the username of 'clayshaper'. (chuckle) We own an OTTB named "Somebody's Baby" (just Baby for short, of course) whom we currently have to board elsewhere. (We're lookin' for a new place tho, so we can finally have her with us!) I was disabled some years back, and have been slowly regaining my health- while I was sick, I paid some whacky gal to board baby, and very bad things happened. (like... we paid almost 400 a month in exact feed costs, only to find out the poor horse wasn't being fed at all... just minimal pasture graze. horrible! she was so skinny!) We were lucky enough to find a NEW place to board her the second I found out what was going on- a place I have been able to get to regularly, so that never happens again! I am also lucky enough I am pretty much on my feet, health-wise, and will be able to go back to providing all her basic care myself, once we have a new place. I have my fingers crossed. I have been looking into various rescues and rehoming groups, looking for a niche where I can make a difference. (while i'd love to get the other horses out of that whacky lady's care, that is only ONE situation in a world full of them. if I can help out with a rescue, I can do more good than just one situation!) If nothing else, I can offer to donate artworks that can be auctioned or sold for the rescue's profit. I have done that in the past as well, and it worked out pretty good. We also own three indoor-only cats (two ex-feral kittens, and a rescue with a heart condition) as well as a recycled/rescued and repurposed rottweiler. (grins) I do some fundraising when I can for the rottie rescue too- but they're a long ways away (goldendale) and I can't just pitch in with my bare hands. Maybe I'll find a rescue I can actually help a couple days a week... or if we move, I will definately apply to be a foster home. I have had horses all my life, and I miss it. It's time to live a farm/ranch life again. I miss it too much.

Welcome aboard, david ... The Rottie lady in Goldendale is woooooooooonderful !!! She does such a great service for the breed !! Its also good to hear you are making a recovery. Keeping active is a good thing, and horse care is very relaxing ( of course that depends on the horses attitude, hehe ) My Bro in law was disabled in his late 20's ( hes mid 60's now ), He paints, sculpts, scrimsaw, pottery, makes sturgeon fishing poles, drives the boat while we fish or waterski, wood carves, ham radio, garden railroads....and is drooling over my new tractor ;D Keep up the good work, and welcome to the fold.... Peggy ( mo BS n Lark Ish )

Hi Shana and clayshaper - I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. Welcome! And David, thank you for your offer. Donations like you are offering a perfect for silent auctions, and are a great way to give. Thank you for offering, and we'd love to take you up on it. Shana - my horse lives in Sherwood/Wilsonville, but I live in Portland. I've been thinking about this for awhile, perhaps it is time for those of us in Portland to meet - maybe for a barbecue when the weather is better!

Hello! I have spent the last twenty something years of my life working for the cats and dogs of the world, while enjoying my horses. I realize things are getting better for the canines and felines, but now the horses are suffering much the same fate as the smaller companion animals did before "spay and neuter" became the mantra in this country. I have recently adopted three very well bred but unwanted horses, I love them all and I believe they do know when they have come home at last. It's not what you pay but rather will you stay? Give training a chance. Get help here. Do whatever, but don't give up on that horse! Think thirty years, not just well this might be fun for a while. Thanks, SAFE! Rockaway1 Horse Lover
