Fancy's sure a cutie! Love her new pack saddle (and to have your own name on the breast collar? What a lucky girl!)

Our sweet little Fancy has been a bad girl. Its not really her fault, just a horse being a horse. Here goes, my good friends dog was out in the pasture with her. When out of sight a yelp was heard. Kona came around the corner and sat by his owner obviously shaken up. It appears that Fancy kicked him. I don't know if he was chasing her or if she thought he was a coyote or what. Whatever the cause she kicked him in the head, fractured his skull, and bulged out his eye. That was over a week ago. Yesterday his eye had to be removed. Poor boy. I feel so bad for him! She seems to be feeling great as always. I tried to take pics of her today but couldn't get far enough away from her for a good one. I did get one of her victim tho...

Fancy has exciting news. She is going to be a kids horse! No, I'm not selling her. Just happens that I going to be having a baby come mid August! So, I figure by the time my child is ready to ride Fancy will have seen/done everything and be the perfect horse for my spawn... :-) I've been justifying having 4 horses for years with the -"what if I have a child one day?"- Excuse. "Who will they ride? Would you just have me buy a horse I don't know for our baby... " :-) This winter I've been busy with normal work duties plus an EMT class I'm taking that is eating up my two days off a week. So, I've only managed to get out and ride her about once a month for short easy rides on trails in the Redmond area. I've been taking her out with a friend and her reliable MFT gelding that sets a good, calm example for my youngster. Tuesday I went up there and my friend decided to take her new, very green, TWH mare on our ride. I was curious to see how the two young green horses would do together. Even with the TWH being nervous and spooking several times Fancy stayed calm and didn't seem to feed off her at all, just would do a small startle when the other horse would spook, but no bolt, spin, or jump to the side. At one point we had three dogs charge up to us on the left while a man started up a really loud saw on our right. Very minimal reaction by both horses. Here are a couple new pics of her from Tuesday warming up in my friends large round pen.

Oh, congratulations (to both you and Fancy! ;D)
That timing does work out just about perfect, doesn't it? About five more years and she'll be good for a child just learning about horses. She'll be the "been there, done that" kind of mare. And nothing like raising a child with respect for the safety of them and the horse!

How's the pregnancy treating you?

Hey Buena! The pregnancy is going well, thanks for asking. I have just about 2 months left to go. I'm still riding but trying to take it a bit easier than usual so I don't get too much grief from Larry who seems to worry constantly. I just got back from riding 10 days of the yearly John Wayne trail ride across Washington. I only took one horse this year and rode from Vantage, WA to the Idaho border. The horse I took was my TWH Apollo. I missed having both my boys with me but it sure makes a lot less work to only camp with one, and the easy gaited one at that. I'm hoping the baby comes before the SAFE horse show in August. I would love to take Fancy there for the experience and some fun. Here are a couple pics from the ride I just got back from. :-)

You are so lucky! My husband would not let me ride at all while I was pregnant. He took over the mucking and riding (kind of!). I had to "sneak" to the barn to ride and make everyone promise not to tell Johnny!
Those pictures are amazing!
