This may not be the best picture of Sione, but when I look at it, I imagine she won her races by sticking out this long nose.......even if she was in 3rd place.

Sione is the first TB I've owned, I was afraid of them for a long time. She certainly has changed my mind about them. I love this goofy lovey dovey mare. She follows me everywhere and runs up and sniffs everyone, she loves to run like a youngster. She is a lot of fun and I just love her.

She is really beautiful Tina! Did you ever figure out her identity?

I did Jaime, a while ago, then I was a little worried someone would want her back, but with a little help from a "Cat" I decided that was silly. Here is a article on her legendary father. Her name is Bold Ashley. She raced 11 times, won 3 and placed in 1. Keep in mind, I thought she was a 25yr old QH. Imagine my shock. www.thoroughbredchampions.com/biographies/bforbes.htm

After most likely 15 years of cribbing, Sione has just stopped. I have not see one episode in the past 6 weeks. Is that possible? lol

Something HAS to have changed for it to just stop. Training (major breakthrough)? Diet? Medical condition? Psychic intervention?

After most likely 15 years of cribbing, Sione has just stopped. I have not see one episode in the past 6 weeks. Is that possible? lol Yes. I rescued a windsucker (slightly different - would put his head over the top rail, pull back and suck air without his teeth touching anything) a few years ago and, in researching the causes, learned that many vets now believe stomach discomfort/ulcers can cause these behaviors. Per advice, I put him on probiotics, lots of good hay and only a little grain with his supplements. The windsucking decreased about 95%. It was amazing. I am guessing Sione had similar issues and now that she feels safe/not stressed, and is getting a consistent diet, her stomach has settled down and she is no longer feeling the discomfort that led her to suck air to relieve it.

She's a lovely mare. Lucky her to have found you!
Sione is my sister's dog's name...did you know it means John in Scottish? Did you name her that, or did she come with it? Wondering what led to that choice of a name, or if there's another meaning for it...names are always interesting to me.

The name Sione(sye own e) is Hebrew for Gift of God. I adopted her from the feedlot and her name was Baby Ruth, and my daughter was about to give birth, so one day I was looking at her baby names book and saw it, I thought it was a fitting name. The name Baby Ruth and Hot Lips were left in Yakima when those precious mares left the feedlot and their past behind them to start their new life as much loved pets.

Thats interesting, and I think I like your translation better. My sis's dog's name is pronounced Shonie, so it doesn't sound the same, but I'm certain that's how they spell it. I'll bet it was fun to find out who she really was

Good grief, she looks FANTASTIC! You know you are doing something right when your old TB windsucker mare looks ROUND. Big round of applause for you!

The trainers at the barn I took Sione to today were not to impressed, sadly, they feel she is not broke, and although she showed no signs of a hack or fatigue, they feel her neck shows signs of being "winded", her trachea is slightly enlarged, also they noted an area on her spine that indicates she may be a flipper. On a good note she was a perfectly behaved mare, when saddled and rode, she made no attempts to rear or buck, she did not appear to stagger like an unbroke horse to me, she was just unsure of what was being asked of her. Keep in mind this barn is a show barn and Sione is older and less than perfect. I'll post the video tomorrow.
