Hi Everyone!
Long time no chat with many of you But so glad to see you again!
Thought i'd start a thread for my favorite pal, Cassie. Her name was Zanaella and rescued by CBER off the lot in Sept/Oct 2005.
Lot:
Day she came home:
Kickin' it up and running away from people:
Still not quite trusting (I had to use my zoom for this one!)
Well, much time has passed, and over the winter I began to feel stronger and healthier (hurt my back over the summer...youch!) enough to work with the horses again. So slowly, I began playing with Cassie again.
We were progressing pretty slowly, and I kept getting the feeling that something wasn't quite right- not something wrong, but just something missing from the picture. Then, about 3 weeks into our new routine, Cassie really and quite suddenly opened up and began to blossom! My gosh, i couldnt teach her quickly enough, she was soaking up everything so quickly! It was exactly what was missing from the picture!
In just a couple of sessions she was ground driving (from a distance, and also from me standing next to the saddle, using my fingers as leg pressure) , steering, stopping, backing, flexing laterally....the list goes on! Each time I worked with her it just got better and better, I couldn't believe it!
My goal of getting her mind and emotions in the right place was met, and Cassie was ready for the next step. I decided it was time to start teaching her about the saddle, weight in the saddle, and eventually riding.
Below are the most recent pictures, taken the evening of our "first sit"
Last night I took her out after a few weeks of not doing much. The past few weeks have been so hectic and filled with drama, spending training time was just not a reality. Cassie did get a haircut, so now she's got a trimmed up mane (yea solocomb!).
When I took her out, I was happy to get the same old Cassie- right where we left off! She was doing so well, but I did notice she was a little irritated with the girth (prof choice neoprene). I'm thinking about getting a sheepskin liner or a cinch w/ the fluffy already built on- Cassie has a very very thin coat (almost translucent in the summer!), and I'm thinking without her winter coat, the neoprene is just not comfortable for her.
Question for all- do any have what I'm talking about? Who likes their fluffy cinch (or cover) and where did you get it? I know professional choice makes one with some kind of fluffy- but is it worth the price?
I hope to keep posting more and more updates here- and luckily now that the days seem nicer, I'll be able to get boarders to take photos for me.
Tnx!
Ally
