Hi everyone. I just wanted to share pics of my one remaining twin arab gelding. We took him out yesterday, shined him all up and were working with him. We took lots of pictures (117 to be exact), so I'll show you a pic of him when we got him and a few from yesterday. He is so sweet, he'll make a great kids horse eventually. When we got him... Yesterday... Saheib and my daughter (who is 7 years old) I couldn't resist this one, we were trying to get him to 'give' us his head, and my daughter was eating Ritz crackers, he kept trying to get them, so we used them as 'bait'...

Thank you, he still has a little ways to go yet but, he's a great horse, has a weird appetite though... He'll steal your soda if you're not careful, take apples out of your mouth (while you're eating them), he sucks on your clothes (makes me wonder if he was bottle fed as a baby), and will even try to eat whatever you are from cookies to stir fry....
The only reason I didn't find him a home is because he has major space issues. He will invade your space in a big way, but he's careful at the same time, he won't step on you or pin you against the fence.. He just comes up to you, right up to you until he's touching you or leaning on you, even from behind... It doesn't really bother me, because I expect it from him now, made my knees knock the first time he did it, but it would really scare someone who wasn't expecting it. We're working on it and he is improving, otherwise he's great with anything except the farrier... He has issues with the trimmers, not with picking up his feet or the rasp, but with the trimmers.... He'll get there and he is so easy to work with.

We had a horse once that would steal any alcoholic beverage you left laying around. Appropriately, her name was Whiskey ;D

I'd always heard of horses doing things like that, but this is a first with me. He snagged my last pop one day over the fence and by the time I got it back, he'd drank most of it... lol I drew the line when he tried to snag my chocolate chip cookies (homemade ones too). I have no idea what his name means, it's what's on his papers. Anyone have an idea?

Thats funny lol, yes my Mariah is the same and Dakota never set down a Lattee or it's gone She once grabbed my soda a 20oz and picked it up, tipped her head back and proceeded to drink it I took it away from her but it would have made for a great pepsi commercial

I'm kind of dreading taking him to a show. We're going to do the lead line classes with him and Rhianna and have her show him at halter too... I can just see it now, waiting in line to go in for thier class and someone walks by with a bottle of pop or a bag of chips... I can see her trying to explain the chip crumbs and pop fiz on his muzzle to the judge...

I have a soft spot too... Out of the 8 horses here, 4 are arabs or part arabs, and we have 2 more full arab mares coming in the next few days (starved and beaten it looks like). The others are 2 mustangs, 1 appy cross, and 1 QH mare. But... Saheib is my favorite, just don't let the horses know that...

Thank you for all the nice comments. He is happy, loves attention, especially from my daughter. He's so sweet and mellow. He's a great horse to put a slightly wild one with. Our stud colt was pretty spooky when we got him, we put him in with Saheib a few weeks ago and now the colt is like a different horse, totally mellow like Saheib. He is 14 years old, according to his papers he's actually 3/4 arab, not sure what else he has (I haven't asked the IAHA yet). His twin brother is the one who just died from congestive heart failure. The vet doesn't think Saheib is at risk. He can't find any indications anyway (a new vet from Pilchuck). So, we'll just watch him carefully. He gets some sort of training every day... He just stands there, even if he's scared, and looks at me and lets me do whatever, even if he shakes while I do it (the shaking eventually stops). He's going to be an awesome horse when we're all done. Today we get to see if he's ever had a fly mask on....

Well, he was a bit scared of the fly mask at first.. sniff it and tried to walk away, I told him 'whoa' and he planted his feet as he always does and then stood there and let me put it on... Then he snorted and tried to rub it off on the fence and tried to shake it off, but in the end he went back to eating his hay. Later he goes back into the round pen...
I have a new rescued QH mare here, they told me that she WILL NOT tolerate a fly mask, that it was a total rodeo just trying, so I had to see for myself. I walked up to her (in the pasture), she stood there, sniffed it and put her head into it! I dropped it over her ears and velcroed it under her chin and she just stood there. I guess they were wrong. lol
So, I had one left... I decided since it was a large size to put it on our old gelding, the appy cross, who is at least 35 years old. I was told he'd never had one on either. Well, he's such a gentleman that even though you could tell he was scared, he stood still and let me put it on him. Of course afterwards he stood completely still for 5 minutes, but it's on and he seems to be okay with it now.
Now I just need to find about 5 arab sized ones and 2 pony sized ones. No one seems to have any of those in stock. Of course the real treat will be to get a fly mask on the mustangs. Now for that I really expect a rodeo. We hadn't been bothered by flies until the last two weeks, late in the year, and so now most places are out. Should've bought some just in case... Last year we didn't have any at all.
Anyway, I was pleasantly pleased with how well it went this morning and I have more planned for this afternoon. Saheib will be ground driven again (he has a bit of a problem with reining) and we're going to do the tarp thing again, and more balloons... My kids assignment today is to ride thier bikes up and down the pasture fences and around the pens... honk thier little horns and pop wheelies (yes I actually gave them permission to do so - they are shocked)... do skidding turns and kick up some dirt... I let you know how it goes.
