I remember the Buckskin very well, in fact my friend Kelly that helped me haul Coconut had the same reaction to him...he is stunning when you looked past his dreadlocked mane and beyond dirty coat. She told me that day that she wanted to fill the rest of her trailer and we actually discussed it between ourselves, realizing we were under no legal protection to do more than get Coconut out. The photos were taken in November of 2006. So there was, sadly, too much time for them to not be fed correctly. I'm afraid they suffered quite a bit The side by side photos say allot. She was certainly a stunning horse. I remember her from the pasture and she was actually a very sweet/mild/calm horse. The Grey Arab was the alpha horse and would come up and oversee what we were doing with Coconut; grooming, giving treats, etc...it wasn't until the second day that I figured out they had no way to feed those girls out there. I'm deeply saddened to learn her fate, but as I've always maintained I'm just glad I was able to get Coconut out. I kept a print out of the ad I found her on and I pulled it out tonight remembering that she had used a very powerful name to refer to herself & what I assumed was her farm. Jean refers to her program as VIRYA PARAMITA HORSES which, if you google it: "In Buddhism there is a special teaching and practice known as PARAMITA. The Sanskrit word "paramita" means"going to the other shore," or, the transcendental. And so the working with the paramitas can result in the transcendental empowerment and expression of our true selves. The fourth paramita is Virya: energy, effort, exertion, that is, Shojin. The practice of Virya is a practice in which we exert ourselves to the fullest in whatever task we undertake. Shakyamuni Buddha advises us not be halfhearted about whatever we do, but to put everything we have into it. Do it with a full heart, and put your backs into it. Replicates number two of the Five Strengths, Energy/Effort/Persistence (viriya, virya)." I don't think she put everything she had into her horses. She failed to show Energy, Effort or Persistance when it came to their wellbeing!!

Why does that sound familiar? Did Jean advertise on Craigslist? Virya Paramita sounds very, very familiar to me like she was trying to sell horses in the farm & garden section.

Yes, Jean did advertise on Craigslist. In fact she posted a pasture boarding ad that I posted a warning about and got flagged...but have since learned that at least one person saw that warning and had been in contact with Jean but stopped the process (THANKFULLY!!!) One less horse in peril....
I believe it said something about no mud (lie #1), fresh water (lie #2) and winter feeding (lie #3) etc..... I didn't want to name names but I did STRONGLY suggest than anyone who was going to do pasture boarding without an onsite manager needed to check the place out very well and get references because the photos were nearly exact duplicates of the photos I took of my very muddy girl the day I met her (no mud!?!?!?!?) Plus the phone number matched the number I had for Jean (and strangely still have on my cell phone as "Jean Coconut" because I called her several times before I came out)

The bay&white pinto saddlebred mare owned by Jean was the mare Shell Game #120087. She was sired by Skywatch, four time World's Grand Champion five-gaited horse who spent the last years of his life living in the Hall of Champions at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Sad that his daughter starved to death in a field (allegedly).

Hey Alyssa, is this the buckskin you were worried about? Scroll down to "SK Golden Halo" aka "Jaguar": crownkorhelequestrian.com/images.aspxThe mare, Halo, was supposedly a 17h TB. Sire is Seas the Golden Day.

These photos might not pertain to Emma and feel free to move them somewhere, but these were Coconut's pasture mates. I do not know exactly what happened to them and in my heart I hope they found other homes before times got really bad for them but it causes me great sorrow to think they might not have made it. I wish I knew who they are/were...I honor them regardless !!! Hey Coconut!!!! This is Shell Game dam of the Filly Song of the Sea aka Emma. She is the Buckskin Pinto filly with the white tail...there was another her age with a black tail last late summer somewhere. PS... Shell is a full saddlebred stated to be over 17 hands per Jean...she is not tech. a Paint because of bred. Coconut's pasture mates: Paint Mare Appy Mare Grey Arab Mare Someone was helping me search the Arab registry; there was a horse that could be Coconut & if it was, this could be her sister...but it's all anyone's guess!? Here's one of what I was told was the Stallion/Gelding herd that was kept in what I call the front pasture (Coconut and the other mares were in the back pasture, separated by a small river and some barbed wire ). There were some really beautiful horses there, even though they were not well cared for, grooming-wise.(or any other-wise as we now know) At the time they all seemed in pretty good weight but, as I know from Coconut, it wasn't exactly healthy weight. Grass only! The pictures aren't exactly clear because I only had a 3.2 mega pixel camera at the time and these were pretty much in the background of closer photos I took of Coconut. The herd photo was actually one I took, intending to capture the front pasture...it wasn't until I zoomed in that I was able to make out the horses. At least there's some record of them.

Oh yes...I met someone who used to work for Jean several years ago (and then tried to turn her in, to no avail) and she showed me pictures of babies with halters on standing next to piles of wood with nails and rolls of barbed wire laying on the ground. Nice, huh?

I hate these memories but it's part of what turned my dream of horse ownership into a passion for neglected horses: The day we hauled Coconut out of the Monroe pasture, we had to wait for several hours thinking Jean was going to show up. She never did, which is a story all unto itself. But we had plenty of time to take note of several things that confirmed my intuition that things were horribly wrong there. While I was busy trying to figure out how to get Coconut out of that back pasture, my son, who was not raised around horses, asked my friend Kelly to look at a horse that had caught his eye. This (aprox 3 yr old) filly had a halter that looked tight to him. Kelly took the halter off and it was embedded into her skull. Hair and skin and grown into the halter and Kelly said it was a yearling sized halter. Even the untrained eye knew that had to be wrong!! If you check out the photos I posted every horse there had a halter on. The one Coconut had on was probably years old and even been *repaired* by tying a piece of cloth between rings to keep it on. I took it off the day after I paid for her on one of my daily visits to the pasture. She still has a line across her face from that halter It's amazing after having that on all that time and how uncomfortable it must have been that she will, to this day, lower her head willingly and nose into her halter calmly. I've never had a hard time with her...bless her heart! It was this and many other things that set me in motion to report Jean...and like many before me, it came to no fruition (immediately). That haunts me...but my new motto is "One Horse At A Time" because alone I can only do so much. THANK GOD there is a group like SAFE who can help so many. You are my heroes!!!

Well I do have to say, had more of the horses been wearing halters on the day of the seizure, it might have been a bit easier for us! I think only Willow, Lily, and Sinatra had halters on that I recall. I suspect she kept halters on most of the time though because the horses were so unhandled, that's the only way she could catch them. Another of the photos I have from the woman who came out, showed a bay mare with a foal. The mare was not only wearing a halter but had a lunge line attached to the halter that she drug around. Apparantly, she was hard to catch, so that was the solution. That said, turning horses out with halters is dangerous as it is. Turning babies out with halters you never take off as they grow, and letting them live in a mess of barbed wire, trees, and other things they can get their halters caught on, is just ASKING for trouble!

Is the filly Dazzling Treasure (the buckskin with a black tail) that you are looking for the daughter of Sultan's Sundazzled? She was b/w pinto. This is so sad. The old mares Autumn Haze RKR, Impromptu DHF, Shell Game, and Sultan's Sundazzled were all in their teens, and probably could not survive being pregnant and starved. The filly was out of the black and white mare Sultan's Sundazzled. I am hoping she was sold to a good home since she was not in the groups found. This is all so very sad... I spoke to the AC officer from Snohomish County today, and it sounds like the other black and white mare, Sultan's Sundazzled, may be alive and well

Schwung ~ If that's true, that is wonderful news! So now we know that Autumn Haze and possibly Sultan's Sundazzled survived. Wish we could find out what happened to Olympic Spirit and Impromptu DHF. It would be nothing short of miraculous if these old mares were still alive, too!

A previous owner of Autumn Haze posted on another site that this mare had been found safe. Sadly, yesterday she posted that she has discovered that this is not true, and Autumn Haze is also deceased.

Emma update. Yesterday I turned the fillie out into the big feild for the first time. They are now able to be caught. They had so much fun. Emma is so pretty when she runs and plays. She puts her tail over her back and does her wonderful high stepping trot. She is so pretty! Come time to come in they were at the far end of the feild, I walked down and they fallowed me back up to the gate. Life is good!! I will try and get pictures of Emma playing this week.
