I have been on vacation for a bit and have managed to get Emma out on several trail rides in the last few weeks. A couple of those rides with Duchess as a trail companion and few with us just solo. She is doing so well and learns new things every time. I think it is interesting to watch the difference between when she rides with the trainers and our solo rides. She is very obedient with the trainers and "does a good job" on the trail. But when it is just the two of us taking a leisurely forest stroll I allow her the time so she is more open to truly wrapping her mind around what the obstacles, "scary things," - what have you - are and developing a real understanding why things are OK rather than just putting on her imaginary blinders and being obedient. She can be a "good student" but I want her to be confident. Physically she is coming along spectacularly. She is a comfortable 16 hands tall now and about 1000 lbs. She is putting on muscle in the hind quarters and shoulders and still growing. Our pony is growing up to be a real beauty!

Due to life changes, Emma and Dutchess are being made available for adoption via our SAFE-Assisted Rehoming program. There is no urgency and David and Janis are looking for the perfect homes for their girls. They have done a fabulous job in getting these beautiful horses trained and they are fabulous prospects for any direction.
Emma and Dutchess will remain at their current home in Chimacum, WA, until the perfect adopter comes along. Adoption Fee will be $600, which is a steal given the training that they have had! Please submit an online adoption application if you are interested in Dutchess or Emma!

Here's a synopsis on Emma's training and status. Last year, since she was only 2.5 yrs old, we kept her training basic and put her thru a 5 week professional training course. Basically a "pony manners" course. It was all ground work type things; lead, longe, tie, trailer load, tack up (but no rider), farrier, etc. She was a bit precocious and resistant to the training environment. This spring we sent her thru the full 10 week professional training course. While still resistant to the training compared to Duchess, she put up with it and completed everything successfully. She does all the ground work; lead, longe, farrier, trailer, tie, etc. Riding; walk/trot/canter, emergency stops, backs, side passes, etc. The basics. We have had her out on several trail rides and done round pen arena work with her here at our farm and - DING! - the bell has rung for Emma. I guess she just put it all together in her head this summer because she is currently doing better than Duchess in all her work. Her former precociousness has turned to enthusiasm for the task at hand. She has that saddlebred energy and has found a spot to put it. She just needed us to have patience with her until she matured a bit and now she is just doing so well! If I could sum Emma up in a word it would be "happy!" She just has an enthusiasm for life. When I exercise her to burn off a little steam she just digs down and really charges across the pasture in a full run - WAHOOOOO! But when we are on the trail and I want her to walk slowly she has this cute, slow walk, keeping an ear on me like asking "is this what you want?" Just such a pleaser. She has grown and matured so much even just this summer. Her conformation is still lean and more saddlebred typical. Having put on a good amount of muscle this year she will still fill out quite a bit more. She is currently 16 hands, 1000 lbs, 3.5 years old, perfectly tight little hooves (everyone comments on how perfect they are), sound, healthy, sweet, personable, smart, beautiful. Another perfect young mare. I see Emma doing really well in dressage as she is just so showy. She knows she is beautiful and likes to show it off. She also would be a good hunter/jumper because she is so atheletic.

I would really like to see Emma and Duchess. How can I set up an appointment to get to know them? This Sunday would be great if that works?

Emma has been doing very well. We havent been riding much as our woods/trails have been full of deer hunters for a month or so. She is getting a luxurious winter coat and looks cute with her fuzzy chin. Here she is in the front pasture this very afternoon.
