Chelsea stopped by with JR on her way up to his new foster home at Mara's, and I got a chance to spend some time with him. All I can say is WOW. He looks amazing! Chelsea, you have done a fabulous job with him, and I truly cannot express the depth of my gratitude for all you have done for him. However, he looks so good, I can't help but feel somewhat angered about it. This horse was not hard to fix. He has eaten hay and grass just fine despite his teeth since he came here. His condition would be more understandable if he couldn't eat....but he can, and this was truly a case of not being fed. Heartbreaking. Anyway, the photos! Most of the time you can't even see his ribs, although he still needs a few more pounds to cover them well. He is standing much better, still not 100%, but standing square more often than not, according to Chelsea. Doesn't he look amazing? I love this shot...his nose is all wet from eating grass:

He is stunning! And you have every right to be so angry Jaime. I went back and looked at page 1 that showed his feedlot picture where he looked very good and then looked again at the "after I got 'saved' photos" and my stomach turned all over again. Absolutely horrifying and that person should not be allowed to own ANY animals. PERIOD!! Great job Chelsea - thank you so much. I WISH I HAD MORE STALLS AND MORE LAND!!! He would be here in a heartbeat!!!

JR settled in quickly and when turned out, he really wasn't interested in anything but the grass in front of him, even with the show of Raina and Storme running like silly gooses around him... Raina tried super hard to sniff noses with JR, but JR didn't want anything to do with it. He just turned his hind end and kept on eating. I tried to get pictures of all the excitement, but I for some reason my camera decided to not work...grr. He really is a lovely boy. Chelsea you have done such a super wonderful job with him, he is a sweetie and has such a doll face. Thank you to all who was involved with getting this boy the help he needed, getting him out of the situation he was in, and back to health!

He went from this- to this- Again I wonder about the other horses that were at this property Maybe people who do not feed their horses properly should go with little to no food for months and see how they feel Thanks to everyone who took care of this horse the way he should of been taken care of in the first place.

I agree with the eye for an eye approach. If only we could get that past the ACLU!

what a turn around! the way he stands in back remindes me of the way that appy that cindy got for dakota (that passed away eventually I think...) stood. Has hannah menitioned why he stands like that? I was always curios what caused it...

Epiphany, the way he stands is due to the infection in his feet. He still has deep cracks in his heels that are tough to get dry and heal. He is getting there though!

What a transformation! He looks sooo much better.
I recall reading about a case of horse neglect/starvation in Texas - can't remember all of the details, but the sentencing involved a minimal amount of bread and water for a period of time for the "owner" - confinement, too, IIRC.

What a story. Massive kudos to all involved. And Cardicorgi, re: that case in Texas - what a good idea. A little eye for an eye in these cases wouldn't hurt.

Wonderful job Chelsea and another huge thank you to Jaime for finding out that he needed help. I dread to think what his end would have been otherwise...
