He definatly is gaining in his hip area, great job with this sweet older boy. He has the sweetest face. These oldies can take a long time to recover.

My farrier Sandy Craig will be coming out today to do some work on Parelli and I have asked her to clean up JR's feet and specifically his frogs. Juliane's farrier Margo did a great job initially but his feet were so damaged she could only do so much. There are a lot of pieces hanging and creating pockets which make them difficult to get completely clean and to get medication to where it needs to go. I will try to get some pictures after she is done with him today.

Well I spoke to Sandy and as I suspected there was a "false" frog that looked somewhat normal but was actually covering a diseased pocket of tissue. Sandy was able to pare that covering away and expose the remaining diseased area to air and medication. The good news is that she said while his feet are very painful still there was no blood and pus like when Dr. Hannah and Margo worked on him. So we are making progress for sure! I am hopeful that this will greatly speed his recovery. More than once in the last week I have seen him look longingly out at Sarge and Dally in their nice grassy pasture and call to them. I think he would really like to be out there with the other old farts! I have made him a promise that i will make that happen as soon as his feet come around to not needing daily treatments.

Oh, that's good news! All I can say is, once again, thank you Chelsea for taking such wonderful care of JR. I hope his feet come around quickly now and you will be able to keep your promise to him that he can romp with the old farts in the pasture.

Oh, I would love to see him get to go out and play with the boys!
Would Boa Boots help him at all? I have a pair I used to trailer Lacy from Canada to Tennessee because her feet were in such bad shape. They haven't been used since. I could have Melissa send them out to you, Chelsea, if your farrier thinks they'd be a good idea.
