Wow. Kudos to SAFE for doing what is right by this horse. If there is anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask!

How is the other horse that was at the place where JR was? Nickers, was it's name I think? I know SAFE was not involved in the adoption of the other horse, but wondered if Syndi felt he was doing ok there.

Trillium - you would have to ask her that question.

What makes it all the more heartbreaking is the sweet, kind expression on his face in every picture.
Why can't others learn that the only way to really protect ourselves from slander and hard feelings is to put these things right out on the table and deal with them? Now instead of allegations that SAFE isn't doing right by the horses, SAFE is seen as a rescue with the utmost of standards that tells the truth and steps up to the plate.
If one wanted to donate a dribble here or there to JR's care would they send it to Chelsea or SAFE?

Oh, I forgot to include this in my post. Two of my horses are official adoptions from rescue organizations. With both of them I am required to have a vet see the horse and complete a form documenting their condition and routine vet care. That form has to be sent in once a year. I just do it when they get their spring shots and teeth. Pam

Pam - first of all - thank you for sharing what other rescues are doing as far as the yearly vet report. I really like that idea. Would you mind emailing me a sample copy of the form you have to fill out?
As for donations - I have no problem if you would like to donate directly to Chelsea. If it goes through us, we can track his expenses a little easier, and you would be able to claim a tax deduction if we get our 501c3 this year (and I don't see any reason why we won't). But either way is fine with us.

I may have to snail mail a copy of the vet report. I'm not sure I can get it on the computer. But, I will get you a copy as soon as I get it. I expect it any time from them. Pam

The condition of JR is very heartbreaking. I am glad something is being done to help. His poor feet just made me cring. The one thing that concerns me is if there were other horses with this one what is there condition and are they in jeopardy? Is something being done to check up on that?

The are steps being taken to check in on the other horses, yes. Sorry I can't say much more at this time.

I hauled JR to Chelsea's this afternoon. JR was in a good mood and trotted (I had to trot to keep up with him!) on the way to the trailer. He didn't even hesitate as he jumped in. Sheesh - that excited to leave me? Anyways, he is a wonderful, quiet hauler and was kind and patient when we finally got to Chelsea's. He unloaded quietly and walked alongside me as we headed down her driveway to her barn. He settled into his stall quickly and easily and made friends with his nosy neighbor, Parelli I think he is going to fit in just fine at WinterLakes Farm. While I have done my best for him, I think he was ready to get away from the 'fast pace' at which things go on at my barn I will sure miss his furry fuzz face and am more eager than ever to see him after Chelsea works her magic on him! I also wanted to say Thank You to SAFE for allowing me to help with JR. It's been my pleasure and I am flattered that you would consider me a volunteer. Please know that you can count on me for anything anytime (Even on April Fool's Day!)
