I visited with Little Miss on Saturday. She has bloomed! Her weight looks good, her feet not so good, but her coat is thick and shiny! No ribs! She stood quietly while I groomed her and politely took the apple treat I had for her. She led out of her paddock quietly and was easy to catch.
If Dr. Hannah gives the go ahead, I'd like to start seeing what this girl can do!

Allison and I went down and worked with Little Miss and Cedar this Sunday with Monica and Julie. Little Miss looks fantastic! She still could use just a touch more weight but not much, her butt is nice and round and she has a nice neck (unlike Cedar). Temperment-wise, she is a bit more nervous than Cedar. She will weave in her stall if Cedar is taken away from her but she is getting better about that. Both mares still have a bit of diarrhea but hopefully the Panacur I brought out will clear that up. Little Miss still has scratches on her hind legs and won't let us pick up her back feet, but for everything else she was a very good girl. She gave us a scare when we took her out of the stall as the first thing she did was slip on the cement floor and fall to the ground, and then thrash around for several seconds before she was able to get herself back up. She seemed to be just fine though, although we were all (her included) a bit shook up by the ordeal! After that though she stood nicely for her beauty treatment. We took her into the round pen and took some photos and video of her. She is a very cute mover! Lots of hock action on her. After several minutes trotting around she started to look a little bit off on her right front so we stopped, and then decided to just put some tack on her and see how she handled that. Well, she stood like a statue, even looked a little bored with the tacking up process. She was easy to bridle as well and totally calm. Julie then worked her a little more with the flag and she was moving more sound again by that time. Allison decided to go ahead and mount her and she was completely unfazed with that as well. Julie led her around at the walk and then let her go. Because she was a bit outchy earlier all she did was walk but Little Miss was a superstar, totally quiet and relaxed, and also came rather naturally on the bit as well. Allison worked on just walking, halting, and turning and she did very well, typical for a track horse but completely at ease. More photos to come, here's a sneak peak! (please don't laugh at my silly hat - it was cold!)

Great blog Monica!!! Even though I was there, it was still fun to read, I love your writing style.

Is any of Little Miss's tattoo readable? There's been a few times a couple of us have cracked the tattoo code.
The picture on monicabee's blog makes it look like it's not at all readable. Is that the case in person also?

Its not at all readable...a couple of the later digits are but due to fading and the fact that her skin is heavily mottled you cannot read the first letter at all.

I visited Missy on Sunday and she is sooo sweet! Julie and I worked with her in the round pen and she is proving to be super intelligent and becoming quite the pocket pony (I know, she's not a pony...) I took her away from the other horses, as she seemed to be a bit herd bound, and she was good. She was interested in her new surroundings, not spooky, just sniffing everything and looking around.
She is a really cute mover and is very quiet on the ground. She will make a lovely mount for her special person.

I rode Little Miss today and she was great. I started with lunging her in the round pen, she picked up her leads correctly and obeys voice commands. She is a bit slow to stop but she is listening and very attentive to her handler. She was quiet for tacking up and even stood still for mounting! I walked her all over the farm, no spook at all, she had some energy so we worked on walk/trot transitions in the field (no arena ) and she was an angel. She needs work on her steering, but she has a good mind and a very sweet personality and she tries hard to listen. I really like this little lady!

I am always surprised when an OTTB stands for mounting. I am always expecting them to leave and it totally throws me off when they don't, ha ha. Joy did the same thing to me today and I was shocked. Little Miss sounds like she is doing great!

I know what you mean, I don't think I have met an OTTB that stands still even with a ground person! Little Miss is quite the lady; she is great on the ground thanks to Julie working with her and Cedar on their manners.

Sorry I missed this, Alison! Someone looked up the APR added Cedar's pedigree information to pedigreequery for me - and it seems she has a full sister named "Sappy." No proof, but this is a possible identity for Little Miss. That would make her a 1993 model, two years older than Cedar. I am not 100% convinced this is her, but for all their differences, there are some similarities between the two, particularly in the head, that suggests they are related in some way. www.pedigreequery.com/sappy
