Cute story! So glad you figured it out so I didn't have a chance to have a meltdown about it, as I am also a closet equichondriac myself...especially when it comes to these horses!

Sinatra's eyes are always what I call "gooberiffic" - he very often sports huge goobies in both eyes with a few pieces of shavings in the middle of the goobers - when those wads are in the middle of his eyes - it just drives me crazy! Needless to say - I don't leave till the goobers do first.

Redmond, I didn't know there was a technical term for it! I wonder if he produces unusual amounts of... um... gooberstuff... for some reason - obstructed tear ducts or something like that.
There, you see, now there is something to worry about!

Nah....I think he's just not careful about getting stuff in his eyes - I don't see any of the others having this "shavings pieces in the eyes" as much as he has. He must just reeeally do a deep snooze lying flat out.

Posted by schwung on Apr 16, 2008, 10:50pm Now both Phoenix and Sinatra get their grain tubs complete with several large rocks - a trick I learned a while back to keep horses from bolting their grain.
;D A real , honest to goodness ' Pet Rock '
Good to hear they are doing better....

I have owned several breeds and handled many more in my life time...I come from horse familys. We all have had a variety. The American Saddlebred IS the most people friendly horse I have ever known. I have had some wonderful comments as to the people friendly foals, mares and stallions I have when attending Expos, shows and other events...They are fast learners and sharp. Your friend is correct.

Allison - it is almost a certainty with him. Cremello is a rare color and requires a cremello parent. This is not entirely correct. You can get a cremello 25% of the time when you have two parents who carry the cream gene. Horses who carry one copy of the cream gene will be buckskin, palomino or smokey black. Horses who carry two cream genes will be perlino, cremello, and smokey cream. There is a website with good explanations of color at www.doubledilute.com/color-chart.htm

In a nutshell, each parent needed to give him a dilution gene, so BOTH mom and dad were some form of dilute. So there is a short list of parents based on the available horses.
His cuteness and personality are his alone!

Yes - the only stallion I know of that she had that carried a cream gene (either one or two) is Seas the Golden Day.

I wonder, then, who his dam was? Sinatra really is the epitome of a people horse, super easy and uncomplicated to handle. I wish more foals were like him!

His dam would have to have been smokey black, buckskin or palomino. Any of the black pinto mares can carry the cream gene if any have a yellow based parent.
