OK, I got a package out today. It had a few rolls of vet tape, some small gauze pads (still in packaging) and a roll of gauze wrap (still in package) that I had laying around.
I also threw in a bag of peppermints (my horses used to love them). Feel free to disburse them to whoever in the SAFE herd likes them. I'm sure between him, the Carnation horses, and all the others we have someone that will like them!

thanks Crystal! Your package arrived on Saturday and has already been sent over to Rhythm. Good news about this little boy. It's been 5 days since he started being treated for his pastern wound, and he is making excellent progress! Hannah came by on her day off to change his bandage, and was quite pleasantly surprised to see how well the wound is healing. He is not showing signs of infection, and he is bearing weight on the leg. So his prognosis has been tentatively upgraded to "hopeful." Which is a good thing, because there are a lot of people who are rooting for him. Keep the good wishes for Rhythm coming because they seem to be working!! Here's what the wound looked like this morning when the bandages came off. Hannah was happy to see that the sutures are holding. Here's Dr Hannah cleaning and irrigating the wound. All bandaged up again! Photos do not convey how cute this horse is in person, and it doesn't help that he was sedated when these pictures were taken. But he is a VERY handsome boy who bears a remarkable resemblance to some of our other recent acquisitions. Of course he is a registered Half Saddlebred, so it makes sense that he looks familiar.

Dr. Hannah was also feeling very optimistic about the possibility that he may actually recover to riding soundness. This is GREAT news! I was also thrilled at how good the wound looked, having not seen it since before it was closed up.

Thank God he's young and tough. I really want to blow up your pictures and put them on a billboard on some highway saying "Barbed Wire Is Not Horse Fence!" You know, start an education campaign...

That wound looks 100 times better than it did. I am so impressed. It is a good thing the injury is above to coronet band.
Keep up the good work Dr. Hannah and SAFE!! Rhythm has such a sweet, kind face, I'm sure he knows how lucky he is to have ended up with SAFE!
Anyone who fences with barbed wire is a lazy idiot. I'm sure that Lady would kill herself within 20 minutes in such an enclosure.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Glad you posted this... It reminded me of 'an accident waiting to happen' in progress on my route home from work.
General desc, older home,20 + acres, young family, home based making money, plumbing business. Quads for the kids, dirt track, swimming pool, trampoline.......... ooooh, now , someone wants horses. They have 4. Have to refence the whole pasture perimeter....OH, heck , there is already barbed wire up, lets just continue to use that. And put more up . These folks are now in the preparation stage for more pasture. I feel like printing the pictures and story of ' Rhythm ' and mailing it to them.......... hopefully, I wont be driving by in the future and come across one of their horses between the wire .
Dr. Hannah.....what a 'cross-stitcher' she is !!!!!!
Both Ish and Lark have ugly scars but not as long as Rhythms.

I was going to suggest ValleyVet for decent priced bandaging supplies. Sounds like someone beat me to the punch.
Good luck and I can send some good wishes your way.

Jamie..
Not sure how much longer you'll need bandages but if you'll Email me a mailing address I'll stop by PVS (Plateau Vet Supply) and send you a care package. The best I can do right now is to get it on it's way this Wednesday.
I've been through this with my horse (New Zealand wire). Two months of total hell between infections (& Penicillin shots), plus daily wraps and stall rest. I buy Vet Wrap by the box now.
Email me an address - Thanks
