It's too bad the girls aren't replying (and cooperating) I think the other horses that are left behind will suffer and either end up dead, euthanized, or needing to be seized. I really wish that Snohomish County would have been assertive since one horse needed to be put to sleep and another was found dead. Seriously, how much more do you need to see?
I'm glad Wishes is safe and not pregnant. She really is a pretty mare and she has a beautiful sweet disposition. I can't wait to see her with some good weight.

Wishes is making great progress. She is such a kind girl with a sweet soul. I can tell she has had some cruel treatment as she expects me to have big reactions and is perplexed when I just scrub her shoulder and reward every try. She does this funny thing when she doesn't like something, like worming, she turns her head and looks away, kind of a "if I don't see you you are not there." She is a snuggy bug and loves kisses on her nose. She follows me around like a puppy dog. Slowly but surely she is getting weight on her and a shine is starting on her coat. Her eye is round and expressive now, it was so hooded when she came. Everyone that sees her comment on her beauty. She has a gorgeous face and eye...I can't wait until her body matches the rest of her. Her back liegs still stock up quite a bit. They look awesome when I first take her wraps off but they quickly swell again. They don't appear to cause her any discomfort, however. I wish we could get some media coverage on this because it would help our cause. They need to prosecute all people who keep horses in this condition and act as if they are disposable items. I am willing to do anything to help get them a conviction. Is the blind one still up there?

You understand her. She told me someone hurt her really bad too! I'm so happy to hear that she is in such great care. Her eyes and expression really got me. She reminds me of an older mare I lost 2 years ago; same kind eye.
I completely agree with you that some action needs to be taken, but it doesn't look good for something happening. Knowing how things go, they'll just get in a little trouble and then keep doing the same old crap until more horses die or get turned into the living dead...
I'm greatly concerned about the horses left.... the ads are still on DH so I don't think they sold. I would also like to know where another horse is; his name was Lakota; a dark bay appy with no markings. He had a wavy mane and should be around 12 yrs old. I intend on posting him on horsereunions, I believe I have pictures of him with one of the girls. I do believe he is probably dead though.

It is hard not to see inside the soul of htis mare. She is so expressive. I can sense the hardships she carries with her, however her trust is increasing daily and she harbors very little grudge against humans. She seems to really understand that I am trying to help her, but in a way I still don't think she believes that the good life will last. I can't wait for her to have a forever home with someone who will treasure her and understand where she came from...she needs security-it doesn't feel like she has ever had that in her life. Wishes had a short outing, in my smaller pasture today, and she really came to life. She trotted, cantered and ate grass. The excercise did her legs a bit of good, the swelling was down afterwards. I will be giving her 'a day of beauty' tomorrow and will take photos of the newer cleaner version of her. I can't wait to give her a bath!!!

What is the status of Meerna, the blind mare?

I have heard nothing on the horses other than they were all placed except the girls were allowed to each keep one horse.

Wishes is back with me and she is doing fantastic. She still has a little bit of scratches on her hind legs but it is almost gone. She's partially shedded out so she still looks pretty rough, but she has gained a ton of weight and looks so much better. She is very sweet and will let you cuddle her face, but she does have certain issues that cause her to overreact or try to intimidate people. She was very good for her trim today (her feet are much better, but are her soles are very flat and they are going to take a long time). She was good for her shots too but was not very good for her dental float, even with quite a bit of sedation. Nevertheless she got done. She's very insecure about being alone and does best with another horse with her or near her. Right now her and Whisper are completely bonded and Whisper follows her everywhere. I put Willow in the arena with them yesterday and Willow and Wishes became quick friends, in fact Willow was distraught when I put her back with Annie. So it looks like Willow will be her new buddy when Whisper goes to her new foster home.

Slam makes her look so small, but for comparisons Slam and Vanna are 17.2 and 16.3 respectively. Wishes is so sweet and such a fine boned beauty.

So *that's* who was out with willow & annie today! I kept running through my mind trying to figure out who the other little bay mare was! She reminds me quite a bit of little miss. She was very sweet today and enjoyed getting some skritches.

It will be neat to find out what she know. She is good on the ground (except the loading into the trailer when we took her) so me thinks she is broke to ride. Hopefully just rusty and in need of a tuneup!

I worked with Wishes a little bit today. Her biggest issue is her ears, as she will not allow them to be touched or especially have anything pulled over them (volunteers that were out today: I would love to know how you got that fly mask on!). I took her out to work with her today and she panicked when I went to take the fly mask off, pulled back and broke the cross tie. After that I worked with her a bit and she would let me touch around her ears and between her ears but not the ears themselves. I think that her issue is the same one that Trey had - she has a little bit of ear plaque and I think it hurts to have them messed with. So she is going to be one that is going to have to have her bridle taken apart to put on.
On a more positive note I took her in the arena and tested her out to see if she lunges. At first she acted like she didn't understand what I wanted, but she was just testing me, as once she started she lunges very well, understands voice commands, and did very well. She is going to benefit from doing some lunge work in side reins as she wants to carry her head very high at all gaits. She tested me a couple of times on going forward by turning in but she accepted correction well and continued on her way.
After I lunged her at all three gaits both directions, I threw saddle pad on her several times. That didn't bother her, so I put my surcingle on her and tightened the girth. She did fine with that as well, she doesn't seem girthy at all. I jumped up and down next to her and leaned over her a bit and that didn't bother her at all, so my guess is she is broke. I didn't take that step with her yet, but maybe next weekend.

Jaime - I'll be out Saturday AM if you want some help. I can't ride, but I can be a ground person!
