I just got home from helping getting ready over at Maeve's for tomorrow's Brunch. If I do say so myself, we've got a lovely Giving Tree set up & we hope it will entice many to give a little more. Maeve has done a LOT of work to make the stories available to read while attending and a friend of hers donated 15 ponies that we glammed up a bit to make a spectacular tree. I've got a little kitchen work to do still but will try to remember to post a photo or two in a bit. We hope that as many of you that can, will join us tomorrow. If not, there's going to be a lot of Chili, Memmosas & Hot Chocolate for the Harris/Portnow & Parrett families See you there!!! and...even if you can't make it, I hope you'll consider making a donation to SAFE....Thank you Leaha for the generous gesture! OK....11.5 hours til party time

I hope there is good turnout. I am babysitting my nephew, who is sick and can't go to the church nursery, while my sister plays in the orchestra for the Christmas program. Grrr, wish I could take this sick, angry baby

Thanks to all that made it out to Des Moines for the brunch- it was a fun time! We were able to adopt out all of our 'giving tree' ponies and I am just stuffed from the lovely food. There was even a special appearance from Santa which absolutely thrilled my little boys- one who even admitted he wasn't very good this year. Thanks so much to Jet for all of her help, and to all of the SAFE members and volunteers who make this IMPORTANT organization possible, the work that is being done means so much to both animals and people. Donations, of any size, make a difference (although the rupee that my 4 year old tried to slip into the donation box wasn't so helpful) and if every person on this board can give even a little bit this month SAFE will be off to a stronger start for 2010. Thank you, Happy Holidays!!!

The Brunch was a lot of fun and I think it's a very valuable lesson here that a 4 year old felt very strong about getting money for SAFE horses. That rupee came straight from his heart and I think that we can see we're making an impression on our future generations that WE are responsible and WE CAN make a difference...and clearly this young man has grown in an atmosphere where giving is part of his whole being. THANK YOU Maeve for opening up your home and donating your family (who ALL pitched in working, inviting their friends...etc...) to make all of this possible. The food was great and it was wonderful to meet new faces and see a new side of ones we've known for some time. Santa tells me everyone was VERY GOOD...I hope that means goodness is coming your way

So glad to hear it was such a success! I was wondering how it went all day, and hoping everyone was having a great time. Wish I could have been there to share in the fun!

Actually the rupee came straight from his sister's foreign coin collection, but it was the thought that counts I guess..

I'm glad you liked the pie! I got the recipe out of an old cookbook a couple gave my parents when they were newlyweds (almost 50 yrs ago!). The party was a great idea. It is always nice to take some time to relax and enjoy the season especially when proceeds go to such a good cause. We got to take home one of the stick horses (the one that looked the most like Apollo...:-).
I think Nicole had the best day ever yesterday. We went to another horse related Christmas party in the evening where I was able to turn her loose to charm everyone. Among all the running around she did she ended up walking right up to the live music, put her hand on the fiddle players knee, and watched him play up close for quite a while. She thinks holiday parties should be an every day occurrence. Thanks again to everyone who made the party possible.

festive photos and a fun blog...I love having my own personal Santa, even if he forgot his boots! Oh well...at least he had on CLEAN socks and I like the part where he told you to be naughty and you left for the WTBA Sale...because you lured me there and Santa wasn't all that thrilled with MY Naughty-ness, however, he did give me a lift in the sleigh and drop me off & was pleased when I came home without a new pony!

I was sending out my holiday cards from my business to the schools who support what I do for a living and just before I sealed them up yesterday I whipped up a little insert saying... Your support of Practical Kit Company allows us the time & resources to help Neglected and Abused Horses See what we do at www.safehorses.org
Thank you & HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Jeannette Parrett and her two personally rescued horses, Coconut Macaroon & Basil(I added two small photos of my 'herd') I don't know if it will generate donations but at least it gets the message out there in the public. I AM able to help SAFE help horses because of the support I get professionally and it's time to stop being shy about it. This year, they're ALL going to know what I do with the rest of my time But there are some schools who just ROCK and I always give them a little something to let them know how much I appreciate them and their support of my little business so this year I'm making all of their instructors one of the little stick ponies and will purchase the little boxes that Maeve had left over from the giving tree so that each stick pony carries the message of SAFE. That will be one more donation to SAFE...perhaps it will turn into more!? I'd also like to offer stick ponies to anyone else who'd like to make a $10 donation to SAFE...the biggest challenge will be that it has to be in-person delivery only as there's not an effective/economical way to ship them at this point. Poinies are always available in Federal Way...I'll be in Summit on Thursday and Covington on Friday. Possibly in Monroe(day to be determined)... If you're interested, let me know!
