Thank you everyone for the very kind words about SAFE! And Allison, thank you for the donation! I just ran out of Cadence so I will happily pick it all up this evening!

I have to go to Costco sometime in the next couple of days, so I'll pick up some vegetable oil. Is 5 or 6 bottles okay?

Aww shoot, I wish I could take credit for $1000 donation, but it was just $100.00! Give me a couple years and I'll get to $1000 though.
I went through the thought process that coconut describes of where/how to rescue a horse and came to the same conclusions. I'd much rather support SAFE than get an unknown horse with unknown issues.
And Sara's post confirms what I've observed about SAFE as well. I've been wanting to help for a while now, hopefully I'll be able to get more involved now that I'm living in western WA again (I was in Montana the last 2 years).

On Grain. Is there any X-Cel dealers up there by you? I used to use LMF all the time but the cost for X-Cel is a lot cheaper but is equal as far as vitamins, minerals and all that fun stuff. I don't know how much you pay for hay but my friend and her husband sell hay. Call me and I'll give her your number. (253) 414-8018. I wish that I had the means and the facility to take in some fosters. But we are in the middle of construction and thus I don't feel that it is an okay place for horses that don't belong to me. If I can get things done by this winter, I'll definitely open up a stall for one or two. [/li][li]Donations are still needed! Our expenses have been running VERY high with all the training costs we've had and we are going to have to spend a lot more to prepare for the winter. Also consider donating tangible items. Here is a list of things we use huge quantities of on a regular basis (those with stars are the most immediate need): - Hay (Orchard, Timothy, or an alfalfa/grass mix are good). - Low-Carb grain - **Allegra Cadence - Senior feed - **LMF Development G - **LMF Super Supplement - Beet pulp - **Rice bran pellets - **Vegetable oil - big jugs can be purchased at Costco for around $5-$6 - **Cool Calories - **Joint Supplements (Cosequin, Corta-Flx, Next Level, etc.) - **MSM - **Biotin supplements - **Orchard Grass Pellets [/quote]

I gotta say these numbers really frighten me. We are headed into the toughest months of the year for all of us- in terms of weather, health costs, supplies, ect. As I click on the 50 recent posts on this forum I see so much activity with the horse auctions and I cannot help but be moved by the photos of so many unwanted and neglected horses. I have so much respect for those of you out there on this board who care enough to try and help these animals to health and new homes and I want to jump in and help! But I am reminded that there is a lot more instant reward in "saving" a life than in "maintaining" one. And it is the commitment to maintaining life that rescue horses need. Don't think that these horses in SAFE's care are "safe"... especially with these financial numbers! These horses don't have permanent homes! Yes, they have been brought to good health and happiness, but there is NO guarantee for them until they have their forever families!
I urge the volunteers on this message board to brainstorm fundraisers and ways to generate income for SAFE. Because of the structure of 501c3 dollers through SAFE can stretch so much farther for horses than rescuing on ones own. Remember that Jamie and Bonnie and Jenny are volunteers like you and me and can only do as much as they can do. We are an amazingly diverse group here with so many talents! HeART of the HORSE was born out of a brainstorm- but there are easier ways to bring in some money. Perhaps make a fundraiser theme for a holiday party (at home or at the office) or give a gift of donation instead of a holiday present.
There has been much debate lately on ethical questions in relation to horse rescue. But one point cannot be argued, it can't be done alone. Some one like me who has five kids, a full time job, and gulp, a rescue horse, doesn't have much to give to SAFE. And most of you are like me, well, gosh- I hope not, but I mean in the way that you all have busy lives. But if we can all give just a little bit, it adds up to quite a lot.

Was there an adjustment to the September financials? It looks like the current available balance on 9/30 went from $3,777.52 to $1,746.65? Was there an additional expense of $2,030.87 that was not included in the original report? Expenses: Total Management & General Expenses ....................207.76 Rescue Assets and Improvements..............................1,977.51 Farm Expenses and Improvements............................2,372.22 Donations to Other Rescues (Valerie Wood).................1000.00 Serenity Fund............................................................250.00 Foster Horse Expenses..................................................5,042.90 Total Expenses:...........................................$10,850.39 CURRENT AVAILABLE SAFE BALANCE as of 9/30:.................$1,746.65 ________________________________________ SAFE Fund Balance, OCTOBER 2009 Opening Balance: ............................$1,746.65 Hi Delasi, Yes, there were about $1800 in vet expenses that were not previously included in the July, August and September financials. There was a change in staff at our vet office and between us and them there was some confusion about invoicing over the past several months. There was also about $350 in farrier expenses that I had paid but not yet added to the register.

I just called Front Porch Feed (who are extremely nice people, btw) to get some prices to post on here. This way, you can figure out what you could afford to donate for SAFE and they don't end up with 15 calls asking the same questions.
Low-Carb grain -LMF Complete $18.99 -LMF Stage 1 $21.49
Allegra Cadence $15.69
Senior Feed -Allegra Complete $18.29 -LMF Complete $17.99
LMF Development G $17.49
LMF Super Supplement $25.99
Beet Pulp $12.59
Rice bran pellets -They stock Maxi Glo 40 pounds $37.99
Cool Calories -8 pounds $29.99 -20 pounds $51.99
Orchard grass pellets 40 pounds $12.79
I challenge everyone here to call in and order one thing off this list. All you need to do is tell them it's for SAFE and send Jaime a PM to pick it up when you're done. They can take credit/debit over the phone. (360) 793-2372
We were all talking about challenging each other. Here's my challenge to all of you. I'll be placing my order this afternoon. Even if we duplicate each other, it isn't like SAFE can't use it!

Just an FYI - I am good on Beet pulp, Cool Calories and orchard grass pellets for now as the only one eating them is Bucky and he has decided he's not thrilled with either of them so I've been just feeding him Low-Carb for now. We go through a LOT of Cadence, LMF Development, and to a lesser extent, Senior, Rice bran pellets, and Super Supplement.

I just ordered 3 bags of the Cadence. Who else is going to take my challenge? Order just ONE thing off the list that SAFE needs. Let's see if we can fill Jaime's truck ;D

Another thing we can always use more of is wormers. Strongid or generic, Zimectrin or generic ivermectin, Panacur, Equimax, Safeguard are all brands we use. These are usually cheaper online than through the feed stores, especially when bought in bulk.

Hi all! I haven't been around in a few weeks due to work but was just stopping in. I saw my local feed store has wormer on sale for $2.99 a tube (generic ivermectin). Next week when I get paid I'd be willing to buy them out and mail them to you. The least I can do for your generous care of Lola.
I also plan on sponsoring her but I have not decided how much I can give yet. Jaime if you can email me I have some important new info you may want.

Hey, I'm new and am trying to get around and meet new people :] I read this, and my post will be delayed, but I might as well say it. I recently(a day ago) filled out a volunteer application for an exercise rider. I'm experienced and have only owned green horses so that is not a problem. Also I am in 4-h and might be able to take them to a show or two, preferably open shows though. I just switched my 4-h project to a percheron and still want to get him to show before fair comes around. Currently that's all I'm really capable of doing. Sadly the pasture where I use to keep my horses were taken over by a house and other horses There are a few places on my road where you might be able to keep a few horses if you need to. It's only like five min away from monroe location.
