It still bothers me that people can let a horse get this bad and NOT notice. If she has had horses for a long time- I do hope they charge her. This is heartbreaking.

Good lord, I can't believe she is alive. She is pretty odd looking, but she is at the fugly stage. Maybe she will grow out of it. Malnourished babies can grow up normal right???

This is just too sad. Thank you to everyone involved in helping this filly. With this extreme cold it's an even bigger task. I worry that if all the rescue groups are turning horses away like her now.......well, it's going to be a hard winter. Tears

Yeah they can. It will take a while and lots of care but she will grow up quite fast once she is healthy and on a good diet. Come spring she will be a different horse as she receives the great care she is getting now. It will be a long bumpy road but if she is just malnourished she will fatten up and grow up!

I swung by the co-op this morning and picked up a heavy weight blanket for Whisper. It's at the police department, so if anyone is headed to Jaime's in the next few hours call me if you can pick it up on your way. (360) 568-0888 press 0 for the Operator. Address: 230 Maple Ave, Snohomish WA 98290 Thanks!

Jaime, are you short on any needed medical supplies or anything for Whisper? Perhaps we could all come together and get her the things she needs to make it easier on her and you.
I've called in orders at Jaime's feed store for her before and then she can pick them up. The feed store employees are very helpful with this! If anyone wants to donate a bag of grain or anything, I am sure Jaime could tell you what kind she is feeding.
SAFE excels at this. Let's all pitch in with our holiday spirit and make sure SAFE has all the needed supplies to get little Whisper back up to her potential!

I have had several types of feed/supplies donated to help with the horses. As soon as I know what Jamie needs, I'll get it to her. If SAFE purchases items, the City does have donation money to reimburse SAFE.

That's great, Laura! I just figured we have a great support group here too...the more supplies SAFE can get to help in this weather (with all the horses), the better. Besides, it sounds like Jaime may have to do some repairs at her farm because of this stuff. Sorry to hear your water issues, Jaime

Yesterday Laura brought Whisper a beautiful new heavyweight Weatherbeata blanket for Whisper. Last night when Hannah was out to check in on her, we took off the canvas blanket and the blanket Hannah had loaned her and put the new blanket on over her pretty plaid blanket (also donated by Laura). We didn't do up the leg straps on the top blanket because the bottom blanket hung a little lower and I really didn't think she needed them as she wasn't lying down (or at least I didn't think she was). Imagine my surprise when she greeted me as usual with her head over the stall door with a whinny this morning, but wearing only her bottom blanket. Her brand new blankie was in a neat pile in the middle of the stall. It was completely intact and unharmed, belly straps and chest buckles still in place. She also appears completely fine. I was able to get it back on her and this time put the leg straps on, so hopefully this will be the last of the Houdini tricks.
I am sad to think of her struggling to get out of it, but also VERY encouraged by the fact that she obviously was down and was strong enough to get herself out of the blanket and back up again! I think she's doing well!

I'm so glad she continues to improve. Getting up on her own is a small miracle compared to where she was last week.
My sister has some equine senior she is not using (due to very easy keepers) and some very rich grass hay (almost too rich for the ponies). If you or someone needs it in case of emergency- let me know. The issue is just the weather.

I am so glad to see postings on Whisper. I was originally chosen to receive this special baby but she was too weak to make the trip. I am so glad to hear she is getting stronger and look forward to helping in her recovery down the road a bit. LAURA YOU ARE GREAT!!

Our little girl definitely has some opinions about things. She would like her food NOW and she would like to get out of the stall NOW and yes I will just push you over if you are in my way. She's really quite cute with how pushy she is...she is obviously gaining her strength back quickly and its wonderful to see.
