Whitewolf821 - - No need to apologize about not knowing what to look for in a Saddlebred. You won't see "what to look for in a Saddlebred" represented in any of these horses. I wholeheartedly agree that the mares Willow and Hope are cute, cute, cute, even in their present condition, but the plain and simple fact is that none of these horses exhibit desireable Sabblebred characteristics. They just don't. Even once they are fat and healthy, the two mares will be cute horses, but they are a long ways from ideal Saddlebred type. These horses were obviously bred for color; not for quality of type.

Well, no matter what they are or aren't. They are getting the care they need and deserve and that is what matters now. They are all cute in their own special way!

Well it took me a little while, but I finally figured out who Jean Marie Elledge (used to be Buck) is and who the cremello stallion is. All those blonde babies are most likely his allright. He is blood typed with the American Saddlebred Horse Association, so they could help anyone who wanted to take the time and effort to get papers on some of these babies. I'm sure they have the ownership and bloodtyping records on the mares Elledge owns as well, so it may be possible to get papers on some of them. With regard to Willow, if she is who I think she may be, she and her baby Lilly may be half sisters in addition to being mother and daugher. Yup, I think Elledge bred Willow to her own sire. How's that for careless breeding! The stallion only has five registered offspring (the last one in 2005), so Elledge has been breeding horses without registering them, but then she wasn't even feeding them either!

trailsnail - I appreciate you taking the time to try and find out information on these mares. However, I do want to say that unless you have some kind of proof about the parentage of Lily, I would appreciate refraining from speculation that she might be a half-sister of her own mother. There were at least 5 stallions owned by Jean Elledge that I know of, and Lily's coloring most certainly could have come from her dam. Please keep in mind that some day these animals will be offered up for adoption, and such negative speculation without proof could be damaging to those efforts.
Even if Lily were a half-sister to her dam, she is, despite her emaciation, the healthiest of all of the 6 horses we took in, she has no major conformational flaws, and is the only horse we have that is running and bucking and playing like a normal horse. I am confident that Miss Lily has a very bright future ahead of her - perhaps not as a show horse, but that's ok, because our adopters are almost always pleasure riders and those seeking companion animals.

Willow got her second lice dusting today and wasn't so sure she liked it too much. But eventually she stopped running circles around me and let me finish. I wish I had enough hands to spend the hours necessary on each of these horses to start getting all the rain rot scabs off! Hers are just raining off of her. Oh well, one thing at a time!

That sounds familiar. When we got Kitty, I would just stand in there and finger-curry her like crazy with scabs and hair falling everywhere. Fortunately she was well behaved for it!

Willow got her feet done today as well. She was pretty good. She put up a bit of a struggle at first, especially with the back feet, but Daphne is patient but firm and persistent and soon she gave up and relaxed, and my job was to hold her and reward her with treats every time she was a good girl and let Daphne do her job.

Willow left last Friday to go to her new foster home, and Lily is officially weaned. Willow wasn't the least concerned about leaving Lily but did pitch a little bit of a fit about getting in the trailer (at the seizure she was the second hardest to get in the trailer). However, it only took about 15 minutes for her to give up and jump right in. She never called once to Lily and in fact never really looked back. She is settling in well at her new foster home, where she has a stall at night and a beautiful grassy pasture during the day.

Look at that trot! Willow is SUCH a pretty mare, even in her current state. When she fills out and sleeks up shes going to be a knockout!

I am posting this on several of the Carnation rescue’s threads, forgive me for duplication, and you may want to just post a link to this info and place it on a single thread. I hope there is some useful info here for those who would like to learn more about the horses, and the Saddlebred breed. I will be back later…must get 2 cats just spayed at the vet. There is a strong likelihood that the pictured Chestnut 4 yr old mare, Black/White pinto mare and Buckskin mare are the following horses: 139211 AD IDEM -CHESTNUT markings: STAR, STRIPE, CONNECTED SNIP, LEFT FRONT AND LEFT HIND PASTERNS HIGHER IN BACK, RIGHT HIND SOCK, WHITE. by Kabuki ex a Supreme Heir mare, 2nd dam by Attache 139213 ACQUIESCENCE -BLACK WHITE PINTO by Kabuki ex a Chubasco mare, 2nd dam Gift Certificate by Titleist 139992 GYPSY SEASHELL -BUCKSKIN markings: STAR, CONNECTED STRIPE AND SNIP TOUCHING BOTH NOSTRILS TO UPPER LIP, PARTIAL LEFT HIND CORONET, WHITE. by Seas the Golden Day ex a Special Spirit mare, 2nd dam by Flashy Bourbon Peavine, 3rd dam by Wing Commander. Saddlebred Rescue on the East Coast is a very good resource to see what SB’s look like, lots of pics –both when rescued and after recovery/rehab. Also very successful in their feeding of thin horses and treatment of injuries and health issues; they have placed hundreds of Saddlebreds over the years. forum.saddlebredrescue.com/default.aspA few resources for those who may not be aware yet of the many activities SB’s can do: www.americansaddlebreddressage.com/Chuck Grant, ‘Founder of American Dressage’, 1997 inductee US Dressage Hall of Fame shineabit.com/sa01002.htm shineabit.com/sa00001.htmSaddlebred Sporthorses on COTH chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=125041Saddlebred forum on ablackhorse.com forums.ablackhorse.com/index.php?s=cc20d95554723660bbdfb7699c248dd6&showforum=54Many, many pics of SB doing everything! www.saddlebredsarefun.com/

Another note regarding Seas the Golden Day, probable sire of 'Willow' and younger horses that were never registered: He was bred by Antigo Stable in Bow, WA. They have a longstanding program breeding wonderful using 'off-road' Saddlebreds and their bloodlines are quality -yes, they do like the Cr dilution that results in Palomino, Buckskin and Smokey Black. His Sire was Magnificent Legend and dam Denmark's Fancy Gold. She and some of her produce are pictured here: www.palominosaddlebred.com/pals.htmASHA requires bloodtyping for their registry and Seas the Golden Day is bloodtyped; so it is possible that his unregistered get may be eligible if their dams could be sorted out...of course that would not be cheap: I have sent some questions to the registry and will update you with the replies. From ASHA records, it appears that Ms. Elledge did not register any horses she bred, and her last (by birthdate) owned horse was foaled 2004 - palomino mare, full sib to 'Willow'. I do not know who has confirmed the ages of her horses, but 4 yr olds are fairly easy to identify from the upper incisors: the center and 2nd will both be large (mature) teeth and the corners small (deciduous or baby) teeth. Best wishes.

Thanks dbald - I have actually been contacted by the breeder of Seas the Golden Day. She is understandable devastated by what has happened. What are the ages of the horses you suspect to be Hope, Willow and Annie? I didn't see any ages on what you posted.
