Sounds like a girl who's used to roughing it... Once she gets more used to the pampered life, I'm sure it will be less of a battle to get her into shelter. =o)

I love this mare! She is so beautiful even in the condition that she is in.... what size blanket does she wear? I have some extra pink ones around that I can send up for her.

Hi Starrynight! Right now she has a nice new Weatherbeatta size 69 that fits her fairly well, but not for long I am sure. I suspect she will end up needing a 72 or 74. If you have something for her in that size that she could grow into we could certainly use it when the time comes, and thank you for the offer!

Is she going in her shelter at all? As I watch it rain today I am thinking of her.

She was in her shelter this morning when I woke up, but they are now back standing in the rain. However, they both have nice warm waterproof blankets on, so they should be ok. Everyone else is in stalls. I hear it is going to be nice the rest of the week, thankfully!

Willow is even lovelier in person that her pictures show. She is a dainty mare, with a beautiful face, classic Saddlebred features (I keep saying that, like I know anything about Saddlebreds...well I'm here to tell you that I am now capable of picking a Saddlebred out of a lineup as their features are quite distinctive!) She is friendly and kind, and comes over to the fence for a visit. She is a very calm mare, and of course she is an excellent mommy to Lily. Seeing the two of them together is wonderful, and I am so glad they both survived long enough to be rescued. I didn't get to see Willow's rain rot up close, but I saw Hope's and Jaime tells me that Willow's is significantly worse. But she appears to be thriving, and so hopefully her horrid condition will soon be little more than a distant bad memory.

I'm curious if any of these horses are purebred. Did the mares come with papers or anything? Not for breeding purposes, but if there's someone who wants to show them when they're in all their glory?

I, too, am curious about the background of these horses. I have owned saddlebreds for 45 years and I have to say that none of these horses looks like a saddlebred to me, except possibly for Hope, the b/w pinto mare.
Does anyone know anything about the Elledge horses that were seized in Monroe? Haven't seen or heard a thing about them.

Whitewolf821:
Jean Elledge is not a member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association; so even if the foals are purebreds (which I very much doubt they are) she would not be able to register them. What struck me is how young these foals are. They were all born in late fall/early winter in the mud and the rain and the cold to mares that were not being provided with even the most minimal care. No sane person would do this.
I just ran across a photo of one of the foals from the Monroe seizure on Fugly Horse. Heartbreaking.

Even if they are registered we will likely never get the papers on them. I have been told one of her stallions and at least one of the horses she sold was registered.

Willow is doing great - she seemed to handle the worming fine and is eating well. Not much new to report with her as I haven't done much with her the last couple of days.

So are they actually purebreds? Or do we even know that?
eta: Honestly, it's hard for me to grasp that this is the first time I've known SAFE to not have a majority of thoroughbreds!! LOL

Nope, we don't know they are purebreds. I think a few of them are for sure (Hope, another chestnut that went to Equine Aid), but they all have definate Saddlebred traits (pointy ears, small nostrils, carry their heads high), so I am pretty sure they are all at least part-breds. That and the fact that I know she had a registered Saddlebred cremello stallion which I am pretty sure sired most of these babies.

That certainly qualifies as Krazy Kolor Breeder Fugly blog material. I figured she was a color breeder after I saw those blonde babies. Glad they are doing better...that must have been a horrible situation to have to see first hand.

I really had no idea what to look for in a Saddlebred, so I apologize for my confusion!
I do know that these girls are extremely cute, and I can't wait to see what they look like all muscled up and healthy SAFE style!
