My dear cousin is in a really bad situation just outside of Portland. She moved there 1 month ago from Mass. and does not know anyone in the "horse" world there. Her world is falling apart, mom dying, no job, no money and an abusive partner she desperately needs to leave immediately. She is going to stay with her sister until her mother passes but needs to move the horse that she has so dearly loved for 16 years. (( Updated: OMG it has been 24!! Time flies)) Unfortunately she spent evertything she had to get to out here including having her mare shipped by Bob Hubbard transport. To get to my point, I am hoping that this network of wonderful horse people can help me get Abby from just outside of Portland to Sultan as soon as possible. I have done this with rescue greyhounds before but never a horse. Do you think it can be done, I just can't afford and don't know that my truck would make that long of a drive. If it could be coordinated maybe a few different drivers could make short trips in a sort of "underground railroad" for Abby. She is a very small, senior arab mare and she travels very well. Let me know what you think, I could take the end of the journey from about the Southcenter area of Seattle north. The whole trip should only end up being about 5 hours total for Abby...I hope and pray that this will work.... Alyssa

I could give gas money.....but I am not close to Portland.
Contact Silver Bullet Horse transport and see if she is coming back that way....tell her you are a friend of mine and ask if she could help out for a minimal fee.......she might be able to fill an empty spot.

What about a drop off point? Like someone meet part way into Washington. There are a lot of gals in Portland that may be willing to haul into washington say to Olympia? I could meet there and haul to Sultan but I need gas money. If nothing else comes up. Ginger and I are always looking for something to do with horses. LOL We just look at our own.

Wow, thank you to everyone who responded to my plea. I have someone wiling to let me borrow their truck that gets WAY better fuel mileage than mine and I think I will be making the trip down to pick up Abby next Saturday. I have one person committed to contributing to the cost of fuel and every little bit helps my wonderful cousin.
She is so sad and having such a difficult time right now. I think the week will let her prepare for what is to come. She has not been without her beloved horse since she bought her, 25 years. She has always been able to maintain a home with even a small pasture for Abby and has moved from California, to Washington, to Massachusetts and now to Oregon. Definitely NOT your typical "I have to move so I have to get rid of my horse" person. This is going to be so hard for her.
Hopefully after her mother passes, she will be able to leave Oregon and come here to be with me and Abby and start a new life. She has been watching my rescues for years and wants to help me help horses. Everything is going to be fine.
slew, I will pm you
Thanks again to everyone.

I could do the haul for you, but I would have to charge $420 for the trip. I have great references, and if we could coordinate with someone else that needs a horse hauled, I could drop that down a little. Let me know!!

I am supposed to be down there to drop off Toad at a free lease situation at Squirrel's barn outside of Portland.......how soon does this mare need to be moved? I am looking at May 8 or 9..........I would do it for 1/2 fuel costs.......probably $120?

Alyssa- Please tell your cousin my heart goes out to her. I lost my mom last July when I was 4 months pregnant. She was 48 and died from cancer. It sucks soooo bad. I was not able to keep my horse, my life was falling apart and I had no money and I tried everything I could think of at the time. I'm SO happy she will at least get to keep her precious horse, and has someone like you in her life to help.

I made the trip down to Oregon on Sunday to pick up Abby. It was such a relief to pick up a senior horse that is in fantastic shape. She may be 28 but she looks like she is 15 ;D I will have pictures up on photobucket soon and I will post a link here. Abby is a llittle depressed but that stands to reason since no one but my cousin has fed or taken care of her for 24 years, poor girl. I am sure she will be fine in a week or so. My cousin on the otherhand is not doing so great, hopefully things will turn around for her soon, at least she nows her beloved horse is safe at my house.
