Hey all, Since I am now letting my 2 have free access to the pasture 24/7 - I need to get them some mosquito relief. My daytime fly sheet isn't cutting it - the mosquitos can bite them thru it and everything else I have (and believe me - they have quite the wardrobe) is too heavy.
I would like something that will give protection from the mosquitos and hopefully something that is safe to leave on them overnight and is cool and comfortable.
Any suggestions? thanks!

I have been told mosquitos can bite through denim...so as far a sheet goes I am not sure? but to keep most everything off Avon Skin so soft works good if you oil them up.

I'm currently spraying them down with my citronella fly/mosquito spray before nightfall but now they have a bad case of grimey coat from so many applications and laying in the dirt. I would just rather try a physical barrier than spraying them constantly or putting something else on them that will make them equally grimey.

My boys love the Skin So Soft...... I will have to take a video and show you.
Ollie will hold his hind leg out and to the side so that I can apply the skin so soft on the inside of his thighs and buttcheeks.
He came off the track, but he would like to convince me that he NEVER had ANY type of spray put on him prior to him coming to live with me....although he does like to be sprayed with the hose.

ok Slew - other than making Ollies thighs "oh so soft" - are you using it for mosquito control? Are you putting it all over their hair coat or just on those silky thighs?
How come I suddenly feel dirty all over??

I have a bottle of SSoS, and it seemed to work, but I too hated the super-grimy results, it was like a dirt/dust magnet.
My trainer feeds her horses apple cider vinegar and says that it helps a lot with biting bugs (but I don't know how much she doses them with).
I heard Horsewares has a new fly-sheet out that is impregnated with a bug blocker, might be worth looking into...
I personally like Eqyss' Summer Defense spray.

You know. now that you mention it - I remember one of my neighbors said she fed (and sprayed a diluted) apple cider vinegar. If someone can make a recommendation on both of those (feeding and spray dilution) that would be cool!

I've tried the apple cider vinegar, I'm not sure if it worked, I put it in their water, I've also heard great things about garlic in their grain for all biting insects. If all else fails they will smell like a giant salad....

Watch out with garlic, though - there was a study (results were published in the Horse) that linked anemia to garlic, but I can't remember what the dosages were (e.g. if they fed waaaaay more than is recommended, or what)...

In college I used ACV on my horses grain to help with the skeeters. It didn't take care of all of them but it did help and it's very healthy on so many other levels it's well worth it. I think I worked them up to 1/4 cup daily on their grain. I'll see if I can find some info.

Okay......pervs!
YES, I use the Skin so Soft on Ollie's sensitive thighs and buttocks to keep the NO seeUM's off of him and the mosquito's.....he is pestered by bugs and will kick and stomp and refuse to eat.....so I use the skin so soft on his "sheath", inner thighs and around his anus and the underside of his tail........
I feel slightly "dirty" explaining that.....whew!
yes, it does attract dirt, but I would rather have the dirt than the pesky bugs...
