He just turned 21 on May 4th. Here is a link to his pedigree www.allbreedpedigree.com/rock+n+moonHe is a registered appy, with quarter horse and some Arabian blood. He is a very interesting color. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a palimino appy? I was told that I could get his papers if I wanted to pay for them. It is only $100 for them. Do you think I should do that? He is a tad bit thin, but not to bad. He had his teeth done in February and his feet were just done a couple of days ago and look good. He was recently wormed and Blazin' gave me two tubes of wormer that had been donated to him. He also came with his halter, lead rope and mask. He needs to wear his mask when the sun is shining to prevent burning around his eyes, because of the pink skin. I was told he has cataracts and is about 75% blind. He was a little stiff, I assume it is from the long trailer ride from Sacramento to Corvallis, then to Oregon City. He also had spent the night in the horse trailer before I got him, to keep him safe because of fencing issues where he was. I am waiting for a call from my vet to discuss care of a horse after a choke episode. He seems to be doing fine so far. I will have to take a picture of him with his green lips. It is hilarious Thank you Gingersmom

I'd get the papers. It makes them easier to place if you don't keep him. For $100 I think it's well worth it.
75% blind is not as bad as Sunline and she does fine!

I have a mare that chokes with some frequency. She's an OTTB and she has some narrowing where her esophagus enters the stomach. Could be scar tissue from tubing, who knows. Anyway, she has her grain either wet, which she hates, or spread out on the bottom of a water tub so she can't take huge gulps, one after another in rapid succession. It's unusual for a horse to choke on hay. You might want to ask Blazin if he has choked before. When Lily choked really badly, 3 and a half hours on a Sunday night at 20 degrees below zero with an ng tube to clear the blockage, she was on antibiotics to make sure she didn't get pneumonia in case she aspirated something into her lungs, nothing to eat for 24 hours, then just very small amounts of sloppy wet grain. Hay at about 3 days. I'm sure that is way more than Morph needs. Lily's throat was very sore from the choke and the ng tube. It was a very real possibility that she could have aspirated something as it seemed like gallons of gunk ran out her nose. She did fine, but I have to be really careful as she is very prone to choke.
I wonder if Morph might have been dry and had a hard time swallowing?

I talked to my vet yesterday regarding his choke episode. She said choke is very common in horses and usually resolves on its own. I would only need to put him on anitbiotics if they would of needed to tube him, incase the tubing would of caused problems in his lungs. I do think he may not have had any water for awhile, as he was in the trailer all night long. And he may have been hungry and was a little excited and it all added up to the choke. Since he had his teeth floated in Feb. I hope it does not happen again. I am now giving him hay again, plus his soaked hay pellets. He eats like there is no tomorrow

Laurie, keep an eye on him. Choke, even without a tubing, can result in an infection from the site where the blockage occurred being abraded from the object that caused the choke, plus from stuff accidentally getting in the lungs either during the episode or upon its resolution. Not all horses will choke once and get it figured out and never do it again. Some are chronic chokers.

I will keep an eye on him for sure. Connie said he had never choked before so I hope it was an isolated episode. I do think it was because he was just very hungry and also may not have had a drink for awhile.
A few years ago when my neighbors horses were looking so bad, I took them a bunch of good hay from my place and threw it over the fence. I went in the house for a few minutes and then went back to talk to my husband who was out by the barn. I noticed the mare was laying down by the hay and thought, what the heck..... I ran over there and she was choking. I rolled under their fence and made her get up. She coughed very hard and a huge hay ball came out. I took away the hay. Then was wondering how I would of explained how I had felt sorry for the poor skinny horse, so I killed it with kindness.
I think I may rethink my policy of leaving hay in the horse trailer while I am moving. If a horse choked while in transit, you would never even know.

Oh poor Morph.. I've known this horse for along time, knew the ranch he was born and raised at. He's was bred heavily his whole life. He never really had anything done with him, I don't even think he was broke to ride before being dumped at the feedlot. His real name is actually Rocky, I remember I posted that on the CBER BB when I first saw him. This old guy deserves the best home possible. Thank you for rescueing him yet again!!! PM me if you need anymore details.

I think that people who do this need to be publicly humilated and have it affect their business. This is why I'm so opposed to secrecy about rescues...not releasing registered names, etc. If you dump your horse at Chuck's, the rest of the horse world should know who you are so that we may make an informed choice about who to buy young stock from, who to send our training or lesson dollars to, etc. I'm doing my best to track down Sunline's history and if I find out the name of the person who dumped her, that name is going to be all over the Internet. Anybody who googles them in the future is going to get to read all about what a miserable, soulless thing they did. I will make SURE it affects their life and future, although it is still NOTHING compared to what they almost subjected her to. This is one of the few effective ways to discourage this kind of bad horseowner behavior - the fear of public scorn, shame, and financial loss. Right now the miserable excuse for a human being is just cheerfully going along and trying to milk out an additional $100 for the papers. Don't get me wrong, I'd pay it too, just to have the papers in my name - but after that, I'd put up a web site called Whateverhisnameissucks.com. !$*$!&!%&~!.

Hmm....kind of like the "http://www.dontdatehimgirl.com" of horse sellers? I like it. ;D EXACTLY. It's time the DISreputable breeders were called on the carpet and had it affect their businesses and their lives in general. It's the same theory as newspapers that have published the names of men caught soliciting prostitutes...that tactic has resulted in a decrease in prostitution everywhere that it's been employed.

and then they can get their cars towed/ trailers towed, and horses removed.....and a billboard w/ their mug shots
( during the prostitution stings, it was always fun to call the wife and tell them to come pick up their hubbys car after it was impounded.... "splain that to the little woman " )
