Your horses are all so beautiful and look so happy. Your barn, fencing, property is gorgeous. Lucky horses and lucky you.
I would like to see a bigger pic of Behr. I appreciate the loyalty and intelligence of German Shepherds.
Boys and their toys!! I'm so glad his invention worked. Less mud around the barn. Such a simple devise, yet so effective. Great job!!

Here is a better picture of Behr. He is actually my moms dog. He is my favorite of hers and would be mine if Kurt would let me bring him home. ;D He is a super nice dog. Very large. I have shown him a little, but he is so attached to my mom he does not do to well in the show ring because he is always looking around for her and does not pay enough attention to me. I love the expression in his eyes. German Shepherds have such emotional faces. My mom has his mom and his grandpa. She used to raise shepherds when I was young. The litter she had 3 years ago was her first in about 30 years. She looked all around for a good stud to breed to her female. She found one up in Washington. Behrs color is sable. I will try to find a body picture shot of him to post. The above picture was taken when we went hiking to all the waterfalls along the old Columbia River Gorge. He was very tired by the time we reached Horsetail Falls and just wanted to take a nap.

Nothing feels better than a good scritch. Teddie seems to be very sensitive to flies. She keeps rubbing her chest. I have been putting tea tree salve on it to help. But she enjoys me giving her a good scratch. Love the girraffe lip ;D

We picked up Futloosanfancyfree for Cat67 and Squirrels today. We had a trailer tire blow-out on I-5, , that is scarry enough, but then trying to change it with out thinking of all the dumbasses that hit people along the roadway, Yikes!! Thank goodness we did not have Futtie in the trailer yet. She is a big girl and prone to alot of wiggling. Here are a couple of pics of her. She will be in with Jazzy until Jessica can transfer her to her barn. Jazzy was like, what the hell, I thought this was MY new pasture. What the heck it this HUGE horse doing in here with me. You know the Banty Rooster Syndrome, well I guess that applies to small horses too. Thanks once again to my hubby, Kurt, he is the best. Futloosandfancyfree Jassy and Futtie (see the size difference) Trying to ignore that crazy old man next door!

The vet just left and the news is pretty good. The vet guesses her age to be about 27, based on the Gavlanes Groove. She does have teeth and does not seem to have any trouble chewing her food. She could use a dental float.
She is clean legged with good digital pulses in her legs. She does need to have her feet trimmed and the bad left front corrected because it is too flat. She is sound, although a little creaky in the joints. She trots sound also, although a little stiff.
She needs to gain about 75 pounds or so, but her body weight is ok. She has probably gained about 50 pounds in the week she has been here.
She gave me some ointment for her eyes, as she has some irritation in them.
The vet thought she was an extremely sweet natured horse. And definatly an Arabian looking at her body type and head.
The super good news is her heart sounds good. That means she could be used for light riding.

I had Val come out to do trims on Jazzy and Futloosanfancyfree today. They were both good girls. Big Red wanted to lean on her, of course the garantuan horse would, but we got through it. This was the worst foot on Jazzy This is the fronts after Here is a new picture of her too, I think she has gained a few pounds since she has been here. Here is a picture of Futloosanfancyfree, just for Cat and Jess

After a few days of sleuthing through the records on AHA, I think I may have found out who Jazzy is. I entered the name Jazzy, searched all the living, over 20 bay mares. Entered the name Jazz and searched the bay, living, over 20 mares. Entered the name Jaz and searched all the bay, over 20 still living mares. It is amazing that there are not very many bay mares with white blazes (star, strip, snip) and a tiny little amount of white on one hind leg. BUT, I think I found a match. My vet guessed her to be 27 and that is exactly what the age of this horse is. So...I am going to write to her two recorded owners and see if she is indeed, Jaziz De Cristo. Both of the owners were recorded many years ago, over twenty years for the last owner. But according to my investigation, they both still have addresses listed in the superpages. Jaziz is listed as having only one baby on record. Her last recorded owner is still listed as the owner of her only foal. I hope they might have a picture of her so I can compare and see if I found the right horse. Wish me luck. Oh, and we made a shelter for her for the winter. She was supposed to move on or find another home, but she is still her. She is such a sweetie, so I had to make sure she would be ok for the winter. I'll tell you what, when my horses finally cross over to the big pasture in the sky, I am going to have an awesome set up for fostering or short term care. Of course I have Arabians, they may last another 15 or 20 years. LOL. Now I have 5 senior horses here. Drummer (Saddlebred/Quarterhorse)who is pushing 30, Jazzy, Katie and Elle, all over 26 and Skeeter who is 22. Here is her new shelter. We will be adding 3 sides to it before winter arrives. And her is Jazzy, doing her most favorite thing, eating. LOL She is the slowest eater I have. Casually munching away, taking her time.

If she is Jaziz de Cristo, what's her breeding? (I love this stuff!)
She sure looks good. You are right, those old Arabians can just keep going and going and going (although so do Appies. I tell you, Clover is just amazingly good. She is fat and shiny and looks like she's going to last another 10 years!)

I can never get a pedigree to transfer over when I copy it, so here goes.
AHA shows a 5 generation pedigree, so I will try to type it so it looks half way decent. So if the horse I have is this gal, this would be her pedigree.
--------------------FA-Rousse -----------------El Reata Faraf --------------------Esperanao Rafloa ----------Crowthers Bi Duke --------------------Hobo ---------------Romao Hallaleujah --------------------Romaga -----Naaja Black Turk --------------------Indraff ---------------Ben Dyab --------------------Nabika ----------Fadya --------------------Sarab Al Sahra ---------------Fay-Sar --------------------Rymema
Jaziz De Cristo --------------------Raktha ---------------Serafix --------------------Serafina ----------Serad --------------------Hanad ---------------Hanida --------------------Gafsa -----Serazee --------------------Desert Bred ---------------Ghamil --------------------Desert Bred -----------Ghazeeta --------------------Khaibar ---------------Rabzee --------------------Rabzaz
Parents in Blue Grandparents in Green Great-grandparents in Orange Great-great-grandparents in Red
I sent a letter off today to her two recorded owners. I will let you know if I hear back from them.

Wow. I just love seeing these horses loved and cared for in their retirement when most people would have ditched them. That is so heartwarming! And can your man come install one of them drainage doo-hickies to my barn? Come November, outside of my barn turns into a foot of mud. Seriously. I bet he could make a fortune if it actually works.
So how do you go about researching criteria for registered horses that names are unknown?! I really want to know more about Rusty since his previous owners were a dead end. I have also been meaning to take Cat's suggestion and place a "Do you know me?" ad on craigslist. Any other suggestions? Anyone???

Well it depends on the breed registry. On the AHA website you can narrow your search by color, age, sex, and name or even parts of a name. I do not know how the other registries work.
As a side note, Jazzy got her teeth done today, courtesy of the tooth fairy. My mom paid to have her teeth done. The vet said they looked pretty darn good. Jazzy was a very good girl, given that the sedation wore off fairly quickly. An Arab trait I was told !! But she stood still with the speculum and power file and hand and everything in her mouth. Everyone was very impressed with her. We hauled her to the vet to save the $50 farm call.

Because BIGGER IS BETTER ;D ;D I thought I had posted a photo of our bigger and better rain water recovery system, but on looking back, I have not. So I thought I would share. It does a great job in the winter. We use it to for water inside the stalls. I also use it for soaking the beet pulp, and scrubbing buckets, etc. The only problem we have encountered is when the weather starts to warm up, the water will start to turn green, so we drain it and disinfect it with bleach. It is amazing this 300 gallon tub will fill up very quickly in the rain. So we also have an overflow to run the water out toward the ditch. We have another one of these tubs we will be setting up for the other side of the barn. Also Jazzys new shelter is coming along well. I primed and sealed it today, it is now ready for the red paint.
