Just realized it's been a while since I put up a Clover pic. She is still busy eating.

She is dark but not liver, that was taken after a bath when she was still drying off (and I fed her dinner in the hope of convincing her not to roll until she was dry.) It worked. Fortunately horse psychology is not that complicated.

Clover ... still ticking! She is pretty senile these days and her vision is going so she has to spook at me first and then when I manage to approach her and start scratching her neck, she is all over me. Something clicks and she goes, oh yeah, the neck-scratching-lady! I am pretty sure she is about 100 in horse years so being a little loopy is probably to be expected. She has a stiff knee but so far so good...I still see her roll and get back up again and she polishes off every crumb of her mush, so I'm thinking she's still got at least another good summer ahead of her!

We said goodbye to Clover today. She had started "losing it" mentally and spooking at even those she knew well, and about a week and a half ago, she spooked and fell. Although she got up that day, her balance was clearly affected. I wanted to see if it had been a temporary loss from the fall but she was no better and was in danger of another fall, so she was put to sleep today.
Special thanks to WLF for all of the help she has given Clover from the beginning and through to today. I was unable to be there and she had to meet the vet. Also a big thanks to bsnlark who boarded Clover for me for a while and gave her a lot of love. I will always think of Clover climbing up and sleeping in your shavings pile and smile!
I had her for 26 months. It is good to know she never went hungry again and I'm grateful to all of those who helped with her or just met her and loved on her. She had a huge personality and was terribly opinionated and absolutely hilarious. Even in the last few weeks of her life, she would go to the fence line and squeal at Chelsea's 16.2 gelding who towered over her. Just had to remind him who was queen of the front pasture!
RIP Clover. Someday I will learn not to get free things that eat off of Craigslist but I am glad I had no self control the day I saw you.

I am sorry to hear about Clover. I saw her when you first got her and was amazed she made it anyway. The time she got to spend under your care was her "bonus round" in life.

Its always hard when you loose one of these guys, no matter how old or if it was "time" or not. Thankfully she had a wonderful last couple years and got to go out with dignity at the end. No long drawn out illness. Thank you for taking such great care of her.
