Lovely! She looks very happy with her job (and you too!) - how did the buckskin do being ponied?
Do the Boa (or old Macs?) boots work well on the scree stuff? Did you return to base camp each night? Did you see much wildlife?
That looks like such a fun thing to do, I hope to do some horse-camping at least, some day!

Wow, what great pictures. I love the one of you Buena standing in the background and the both of you are looking to the right...looks like that would be a painted picture in a frame.
So when camping do you keep your horse tied up to the trailer at night?

Thanks guys. She was a doll all weekend.
I had Old Macs on her fronts only. She's never had shoes on the backs and the last 2 years I have ridden there I have had metal shoes on her fronts. She did great! The first day I didn't put the neoprene wraps on and she got few minor rub marks, but the second day I used them and she was fine. Other friends were using EasyBoot Epics and had no problems as long as they had their cotter pins in place. I am happy with the ease of putting the Old Macs on and off. I may get some Epics or Bares later on down the road, though.
The mustangs (they are duns, btw, as they have the leg barring and dorsal stripes) did great. It was the filly's first time being ponied and her first big trip. She did great! Of course neither of them needed boots or shoes at all.
And yes, I camped tied to the trailer like that each night. Some others did as well, and then a few others in our group high-lined between trailers. All worked well.

It was a good weekend. I didn't ride near as much as the last couple of years, but I also haven't been riding as much in general so Buena isn't in great shape. Last year I rode her a bit harder and she was one tired horse. This time, she never got over stressed or over tired and came home looking about the same as when we left. I liked that better. We had nice weather this trip, too. I look forward to getting out hopefully monthly for more camping trips in other areas with the group of gals that went this past weekend. And I got to meet some folks in person that I have been chatting with online for the last few months (Tina and wanderlust).

That's so neat to be able to camp with them. I hope to be able to do that some day. ;D

I think a group trail ride is an AWESOME idea! I was actually just looking at an ad for a local poker ride fund raiser that I thought would be cool for SAFE to do sometime too....
On a side note, anyone got a horse that needs a rider if we all did a group trail ride? I'd be happy to volunteer! LOL

Yeah, she was a bit of a show-off yesterday. Gotta love her! She knows when the camera is out!
