Okay well Adara is still going up and down, staying down longer each time. But other than holding her tail funny, no other signs....
The good news is that the pack job seems to have done the trick and Rhoen's bleeding is down to only an occasional drip. The bad news is that he won't let me near him anymore and I have to give him his meds tonight... I'll figure it out, I'm thinking to disolve his pills most of the way and pour them on some grain along with the powder meds I got... we'll see if it works. I can't get near him or he tries to run from me, and I can't let him run...

Adara is fine. No baby, she's still laying down for awhile, then getting up to eat and drink, then she'll either stand or go lay down again. Maybe she's just finally feeling safe enough to lay down. I'll keep watching her. The now gelded horse is doing fine also, so are the kittens, the ducklings and everyone else is okay too. I'm tired so I'm heading for a short nap before getting up to check on everyone again.

Well, Rhoen didn't like his forced trotting session and was doing his little squeals. We got through it but everytime he squealed, Adara squealed back. It was funny, but everytime she squealed Rhoen would throw up his head and stop. Not neighs, the squeal sound. Not sure how to describe it. We made it through the session with Rhoen and I went over to see how Adara was doing and to lecture her about distracting the gelding who still thinks he's a stud during his workout and she snorted at me and put her head over the stall door and then against my chest. I just about cried. Then she gave a big sigh and went back to eating. Still no foal on the ground, but it appears that she finally feels safe enough to lay down and secure enough in knowing we're not out to hurt her. My husband says I spoil her, I told him that you're supposed to spoil pregnant females (like - how could he forget the midnight runs the grocery store for cinn-a-bons?). She's doing good and the swelling on her leg has gone down. She still favors it occasionally, but not like before. Hopefully it's mending really well since she still won't let me touch it except to run a brush over it. Some days she's really friendly (to the point where I have to push her away to get out of the stall) and others she doesn't want anyone anywhere near her. But she is settling more and getting used to us more.

Adara obviously knows she is in a good place. Great updates Rachelle, I can picture her putting her head against your chest, what a sign of trust.

Well Adara got real snotty all of a sudden. We just got done with her stall - well a bit ago. She did okay when I cleaned it, but when it came time to putting the new straw in she went crazy. She turned and kicked out at me twice, both back feet with an angry sounding squeal. That stall is a bit too small for that, I was diving out the gate yelling at her and tossing my armful of straw in her general direction. Then she calmed down after the last time and was eating... Well, I venture back in to finish and she charged me. I threw up my arms and yelled and she backed off. I finished spreading the straw (with a rake for extra reach) and left. I really thought she was going to get me a few times there. She did alot of head tossing too. She did not want me in there. This is the first time she's done this and I have no idea why. I didn't do anything different from any other day. Anyway, here's a few pics I took while we were up there. First off, her udder... Then her tummy poking out... And now for her head shot when she finally calmed down and went back to eating... And a body shot, she's still braced to kick, and notice she's covered in straw. I guess one of my tossed armfuls hit the mark.

Well it must not be my day... Rhoen decided to go wild for his nightly trotting session. For the first 5 minutes he was great, nice and responsive doing great. Then...He was bucking, rearing, backing at me kicking out, charging around the round pen, striking at the walls... He nearly got me so many times. That boy may be stiff from being gelded, but he's fast. That lasted about 10 minutes, then suddenly he was nice and calm, responding, like a perfectly behaved guy for another 10 minutes (5 trotting, 5 walking to cool off), he let me catch him no problem and followed me back to his pen like a perfect gentleman. I have no clue what set him off nor what suddenly calmed him down... So then it was time to try to remove a couple of the 'packs' that we had to put in... Nothing doing, he about killed me. I took lots of time moving down his side scratching the good spots talking to him, rubbing him, slowly moving my hands around his back legs, no problem, but the minute I actually touched one of the hanging strips, he exploded. I dove out of the way, he was rearing and kicking, squealing, just putting up a good fuss... I didn't try again and he wouldn't let me near him... So, then a while ago I go up to feed Adara some more hay and give Rhoen his grain mix with his meds in it. Rhoen was fine nice and calm now that I stopped reaching between his legs, but Adara decided to try to bite me. I didn't give her hay until she quit snapping her teeth at me. That took about 5 minutes... Is it a full moon or something? I am not going near another horse tonight. I told my husband he gets to do the nightly feeding and watering. I'm taking a break. I also told him he gets to be my back up for Rhoens morning trotting session and from here on out. I have no idea why they suddenly went a bit crazy, but it was a bit unnerving to say the least. I mean Adara goes from nice and sweet this morning to an angry horse this afternoon and evening... And Rhoen was a bit snotty this morning but was okay but tonight was totally wild and then suddenly calm. With Rhoen is went from rearing and bucking with a good kick to nicely trotting in like one stride. Just fine after that. Weird! I have no clue, but I'm taking a break!

Wow, that sounds like a stressful day. Maybe Adara might be getting super uncomfortable and probably to the point of being done with being prego...? I hope she feels better tomorrow and that it was something in the air...

One word "HORMONES". I'm glad you are ok....Adara probably wants that foal out, so she can get out of the stall. Be safe, we love the updates!

LOL "HORMONES" I should have figured that one out for myself. Rhoen did not do real good during his morning session. It was so bad that my husband (all 6'2", 250 lbs) came in with the extra lunge whip and set him straight. I guess since he's bigger than I am, Rhoen was a bit more scared of him or figured he meant business and had what it takes to back it up, because after about 2 minutes of Rhoen acting up my husband had him going around nicely and acting really sweet. Those two minutes were really wild though. Dr. Hannah will be out at 1 to remove the packings, at least she can sedate him if need be. Adara is back to her nice sweet self this morning, neighing at me and nuzzling me when I give her hay. We'll see how she is when it's time to clean her stall. Adara doesn't lead so taking her out of the stall may be a bit difficult. We're going to build a pen right off the stall so that I can just open the door and let them out. And we can use it to clean the stall if she gets really protective of baby when it arrives. Just let them out, close the stall door on that end, open the stall on the other end and clean it. It was two stalls so there's two doors. We just took out the divider to make it big enough to foal in. Someone else said that maybe it was the weather front moving in that set them off so bad... I don't know but I hope they settle down real quick.

Maybe Rhoen was hurting and uncomfortable with the packing and was just iritated with the whole process.

just a toss it in info - the grocery bags - especially the plastic ones - which are EVERYWHERE - even if man has never been to a certain location there will be those blasted bags...so I give treats out of them.....sliced apples, carrots, grapes, grain and I rattle, crinkle, twist, swish etc...in due time they wear them on thier ears, tied to thier tales, wrapped around a hoof - now all this does take time...she is a pretty girl, Adara. scared silly - she'll be ok. She's looking for reaction to see if you are the leader and she can now relax

Rhoen got his packing out and we didn't have to sedate him. It took almost an hour, but we got it done. Dr. Hannah had to cut the stitches to get them out so I would never have been able to just pull them out. We had to deal with a pesky bee that wouldn't leave and kept bothering all of us (I'm allergic and Rhoen just didn't like it). The good news is that he didn't 'leave' and stay away when we were all done. He walked over and started sniffing all Dr. Hannah's stuff. He's very curious and he took his cookie right away. Stayed nice and calm. Dr. Hannah took a quick peek at Adara and says, other than getting some weight on, there's not much of a change. But then she told me that Adara has to wait to have the baby until after Sunday. Dr. Hannah will be in Texas from Wed. to Sun. So, lets hope Adara foals tonight or after Sunday. I'd hate to have to call Pilchuck out just because Dr. Hannah is gone. I'm waiting for my husband to get home to go clean the stall but so far today she's been her usual sweet self. Adara doesn't know what treats are. It took a couple of days for me to get her to eat grain. I don't think she's ever had either or if so it's been a long long time. It's so sad, she doesn't know what carrots are. Or apples... I'm still trying to convince her it's okay to have a slice of apple or a carrot... She'll push it around but hasn't once attempted to eat them. I'm still doing the bag thing with her, but she still won't touch it. I'm not going to push too much because I want her to not be stressed right now. She needs to stay relaxed as much as possible- after she has the baby I'll push more. Not right away, but afterwards.
